Day 11 of September

I love my job(s).
Worked at playschool this morning. It's official, the flu bug is out there. The morning went by so fast.
Stopped in at Safeways to work on the cards. That went pretty fast too. Still haven't located my missing red binder. I'm pretty sure nobody would steal it.
Then I hit Superstore. Needed just a few items. Thank goodness for all those gas coupons saved up.

I had great intentions of getting laundry done today, but by the time groceries got put away, hamburgers made (for dinner and for freezing) It was time to start supper.

I am still pop and (alcohol) free - both of which are on my list.

The son is still camping and Bill is still hobbling. I guess I could have skipped updated today.

I did get started on Mom's christmas presents. These are the presents from her to all her family.

Better get back to finishing up paper work.

Day 10 of September

It has been 3 days since my last confession - whoops, wrong blog. I have had soo much to say, but not enough time to say it. Thank goodness there is no pressure to write everyday. It has been a crazy week so far.
Monday started off way to early; Bill was still coming down from his drug induced state. I drove him to work; we left at 6:30 am as Patrick had to be to school by 7:00 am. Dropped off Patrick and headed downtown. I knew I was tired, but it was confirmed when, after I dropped Bill off at the office, I turned to head out of downtown, and went down a one way street, the wrong way. Good thing there were no cars coming. The parked cars should have been my first clue. So managed my way out of downtown (can't believe I worked down there for 8 years. I needed to drop off a parcel way out in the N.E. Done: Then I headed over to Mom's place. Had a quick coffee (hot chocolate in my case) and then I dropped the two off at Market Mall to shop for the day. Went to my Chapters store to meet with my boss. Quickly left there at an hour later and ran to meet my good friend Rose for lunch. Linguini kitsalano - my favorite. We had a really nice visit; next stop was back down town to pick Bill up from work early. While I was waiting in the car; the cell phone rings. It's Auntie Shirl. Now I'm supposed to pick them up at 3:00, and it is only 2:30. Seems Mom has run out of air - her tank "sam" that is. What to do. I have 2 more stops before I am supposed to get them. So Bill comes down and we head straight to the mall to pick up the ladies. Drop Bill off at Anne and Brian's - he's borrowing their car - automatic. Then we swing by the school and pick up Patrick - soccer stuff going on. Turn the car around and head back to the manor to drop the tired and air deprived ladies off. Now the son and I continue on to the soccer dome. He's helping coach and I'm helping check in. Once my job is over I head to the car for a 30 minute rest. Out comes the son, and we head to his school. He has a quick bite (take out) and then it's time for a meeting in the gym about the up and coming camping trip for the PE 30 kids. I am home and almost in bed by 8:30 pm. What a day. And that's only Monday!!!! Thank goodness I only have 4 jobs - 5 would take me over the edge.

Tuesday was similar and today a little lighter yet. I can't wait to get back to work tomorrow morning. The kids at preschool are not as tiring as I thought.

Love you Mom!!!!

Day 9 of September

What a beautiful fall day. The leaves have changed colors and it just makes the most amazing picture. This is probably the best thing about fall.
Dropped the cousins off at home and Patrick off at soccer practice. Then I headed to the hospital to pick up Dr. House (Bill) The nurses said he had behaved himself and was a very good patient. ........ Will it last at home.
So brought Bill home, made him a quick bite to eat and I was off again. I dropped my car off at Patrick's soccer practice and Janice picked me up. We headed to Boston Pizza where we waited for Mom, Robin and Auntie Shirl. Had a lovely lunch. I ate way to much. And I really really could have used a diet pop or Margarita. I had neither. Stuck to water and boy did it taste good.
Janice bought me this lovely silver bracelet for my birthday; it is also partially magnetic - so health benefits too.
So it was back home after lunch and time for a quick snooze. I had a difficult time keeping my eyes open during lunch. After about the third phone call, I decided I might as well just stay up. Patrick and Stephanie ordered pizza for supper, but I was still full from lunch.
I spent most of the day getting caught up on paper work and straightening up. Tomorrow is another crazy day. (Bill insists on going into work - so I better drive him)

Good night

Day 8 of September

What an eventful start to the day.

I was awake early to drive Bill to the hospital. Being the good wife that I am, I went into the garage to start the car and warm it up for him. (always the optimistic - he was wearing golf shorts) Pressed the garage button and heard a bang. Looks like we'll be needing some repairs to the garage door. It's seems to just be the wire off kilter - but who knows. So Bill had to hold the door up manually so I could back out. (I was a little nervous that I would be learning to drive the standard a little soon than I had anticipated). Then of course the garage door wouldn't shut all the way. So Bill had to get his keys and lock all his vehicles. But I'm thankful to say, I at least managed to get the door closed when I got home.

We spent the afternoon in Banff. Patrick drove us there (I think his confidence is what makes me nervous) and I drove home. We went to help celebrate Auntie Ming's 85 birthday. I haven't seen her in over a year (she had come to visit mom a year ago) and she has certainly aged a bit since then, but she did still pretty spry. Had a visit with family and then Patrick, Dad and I headed home. There were no messages from the hospital so I called. Seems everything went well, but the spinal freezing hadn't worn off yet; they want Bill to get some physio before he leaves so they will be keeping him overnight.

Another item off my 50 list. I had wanted to organize all our home videos onto CD's. Well I managed to do that last spring. Thanks to Anne and her fancy, dancy transferring machine. So I believe that is four things off my list - only 46 to go.

The cousins are over doing homework with Patrick, and they are actually doing it. Last time I checked Patrick was cooking up a hot dog stir fry - yum. I'm off to bed.

Day 7 of September

Quiet day today. I stayed home most of the day. Actually I didn't have a choice. I let the son take the car to school. This is not going to become a habit (I hope)

Bill took the day off, so he headed to the gym and then a doctors appointment at the Rockyview Hospital. Well, he is officially booked for tomorrow morning at 7:00 for surgery. They think the tendon is completely severed. The doctor told him to get his last game of golf in, because he wouldn't be golfing for awhile. Men!!!!!

So while Bill was gone I got a few things done, and I managed to do another item on my 50 list. I read a book a couple of years ago called The Son-Rise Program. It is about healing children with Autisim. Apparently there was a movie made about the book. I've tried looking in stores and libraries but have never been able to locate it. So I'm searching the interest and it turns out I could watch the entire movie (in 10 parts) on You Tube. It is a great story, and if you know of anybody with a child on the austisim spectrum, this book and move give great hope.

I am on my day 5 of no pop/soda. And because I'm doing this, I thought I add another from my list; no alcohol for 2 months. That one shouldn't be a problem now that summer is over. I won't need to sit on the deck to enjoy a nice refreshing girlie drink.

Went into work at Chapters after the son got home and Bill left for golf. Took a little longer than I anticipated, but I enjoy working in the evenings when the store isn't so busy.

Time to get some paper work done.

Quote: "Achilles Heel"Goodbye to the sky, I know I can't fly, but I feel love do you know how I feel? you are my achilles heel. hello to below, I feel love flow like a river flow you and I standing still you are my achilles heel. "

Somehow this just seemed appropriate.

Day 6 of September

OMG - I don't think I can say that any louder!!!! If you remember I said on Day 4 (my birthday) I was going to start a no soda/pop for a month. Well I'm working on the computer today, turned on Dr. Oz - and guess what he's talking about. It is a 28 day challenge on no pop. Well I'm three days ahead of Dr. Oz. So I'm thinking this is going to be a piece of cake. Dr. Oz has an audience member join him, who drinks more than 5 pop a day. Now I have 3-5 a week. Then as Dr. Oz presents the challenge (which you can see on his website) and how to cut down slowly to avoid side affects. All of sudden, I'm feeling light headed, craving - talk about mind over matter. It was a very interesting show. If you didn't get a chance to see it, try seeing it on-line. He also talked about hot flashes and how to reduce them. 2 tbsp of ground flax seed a day (sprinkled on your food) will cut your hot flashes in half. I have my flax seed in a shaker next to my stove and I sprinkle it on everything. Who would have thought this would have been a learning day.

Well it's Thursday and I'm still in my birthday week celebration. Went out to dinner with Shaunan. We picked Ric's Grill because I got my yearly birthday coupon. Well I must be closer to 50 than I thought, because we forgot to use the coupon. Urgghhh. Had a great visit. The waitress finally gave us the hint that we should leave. Turns out we were in the middle of a Miss Calgary function. There were many contestants there. Alot of short, red dresses, and sashes and crowns.

Went to work this morning at the pre-school. Out of the mouths of babes. There is a little boy who was eating his snack. One of the teachers called him by name. He said "that's not my name, my name is Michael." The teacher said "That's your Dad's name." He said "I'm a man now, so that's my name now. " His theory : When you grow up you get to be your Dad. How cute. Forgot to mention to his Dad, but will try and remember Tuesday.

It is finally beautiful weather. How beautiful. After lunch, I grabbed the sunglasses and sat in the hot tub. I could have almost had a nap while I was in there.

I forgot to mention I made an interesting purchase the other day. It was at Chapters (where I picked up the christmas presents) I found a stapleless stapler. I've seen other ones, but this one really works. Now the plan is to put it someplace I will remember to use it.

Also cross another item off my 50 list. I wanted to find my Dad's gravesite (after many years of not visiting it) And I did, last spring. I actually went again this summer with Ashley, just to give it a clean up.

I think I've pretty much covered the day. Off to bed.

Day 5 of September

Well, the good news is I didn't wake up to rain this morning. The bad news, there was snow on the ground. Not much, but enough to know it had snowed!!!

Well Hawaii 5-0 was everything I thought it was going to be. I didn't watch a lot of the old version, but the characters on this show have a Starsky and Hutch kind of relationship. The 1st show showed how the characters ended up together. Tonight is the Glee Season Prem. Thank goodness I don't have soccer driving duty...

Worked at the pre-school this morning. Seventeen of the eightteen kids were there. A new little boy started; not much english, but he's very smart. He's figuring things out just by observing. I had brought cup-cakes to share with the kids for my birthday. Turns out the church group also made my cupcakes and they all signed a beautiful card. It was very touching - brought a tear to my eye.

I stopped in at Chapters to organize a few things. The back room was packed and I didn't have access to everything - just straightened up out front; so I was in and out in 30 minutes. Will do a good clean up on Friday when I go in. I did pick up 4 Christmas presents. It's getting that time - to keep my eyes open for the "just right gift".

Straightened up when I got home. Patrick was supposed to do his sports med training with the girls soccer team after school. It got cancelled, so I picked him up at school and we headed to Staples to buy him a new calculator. His original one got lost; found one and it broke, so seeing how math season has just started!!!! Well we walked into Staples only to discover that the entire computer system was down. They couldn't take credit card or debit card transactions. I could have run over to the bank to get cash; but we decided to come back another night. It's amazing how much we rely on technology; Even the big stores.

Received a lovely card in the mail today from a girlfriend. At first I thought it was a birthday card - but then realized it was just a "because" card - and when I read the words - it brought a smile to my face. Thanks S.E.

Bill came home early from work so he could get a quick game of golf in. Turns out the course was closed. Too cold - not sure! Too wet - probably. He's scheduled for an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon on Friday. He's not sure what they are going to do. According to the xrays, they don't think his achillies tendon is even attached!!! Hmmm.. men.

Off to finish up some paper work.

Day 4 of September

Happy Birthday to Me. The weatherman was the only one who didn't come through today. More rain - if this keeps up, we really might move to B.C.

Received a new camera from Bill for my birthday. I lost mine a couple of years ago while on a visit to Dallas at Christmas. This one is a Sony; a little smalled and compact. I love it. Received many birthday wishes from family and friends on facebook. I love facebook! Had a nice first morning call from Shaunan too. Also received a surprise phone call this afternoon from my friend Cheryl in Dallas. Actually I shouldn't be surprised because I believe she has called every year.

Well I have already crossed one of my 50 items off my list! - PLAY BLACK JACK AT A CASINO. This was done of course when I went to Vegas with De back in August. Now that was my third time in Vegas and never had I gambled at the tables before - too intimidating. But I had been practising on line (fake money). I loved it. Thanks De for helping to cross off one item. And I am starting another item on my list - No soda pop for 1 month. It's become to cheap and easily accessible. You go for lunch, bring me a diet coke, or a sprite. Now it will be water or tea. Wish me luck. I don't think it will be difficult except for those non thinking moments.

IN THE NEWS TODAY: Actor Randy Quaid and his wife, Evi, are again in trouble with the law, facing burglary charges after the owner of a house they were living in claimed they were there without permission.
According to reports, the house in Santa Barbara, Calif., was formerly owned by the Quaids, but documents show that the current owner bought it. along with a guest house on the property, in 2007.

IN THE NEWS ON SEPTEMBER 20, 1961
The Joey Bishop showed premiered on September 20, 1961.
I don't remember the show, but I remember Joey Bishop.

Speaking of Premiers. Tonight is Hawaii 5-O. So looking forward to it. Mainly because the Korean actor from Lost is going to be part of the show. Will give my review tomorrow.

So supper tonight is quiche (I make a darn good one) and birthday cake. (and tea)

50 down and 49 to go.

Have a lovely evening.

Day 3 of September

What a lazy day today. Might it have something to do with the weather!!! Probably. This rain is missing up my schedule. When it rains, Bill doesn't golf, and when Bill doesn't golf, he comes home, and when Bill comes home, things have to get done. (Plus he's a little grouchy)

I didn't get out of my PJ's until it was time to go for dinner. Patrick asked if I would fix a pair of jeans for him. So I hauled out the sewing machine (not my favorite machine in the house) and to my surprise 1 pair of jeans turned into 4. I finally had to ask why all his jeans had tears in the croch(sp). Seems the son has the tendancy to do lunges in his jeans. Cut it out. Not only to I dislike mending; patches are not my specialty. It takes everything in my power not to suggest that he take his jeans to Auntie Anne and beg!!!! I did something today, that I have never done ever, while sewing; I cut my finger with the scissors. The thread kept getting caught and I was getting frustrated, so I grabbed the scissors (my sewing scissors) and hastely cut the thread. Didn't quite move my left hand ring finger fast enough. And boy do fingers bleed alot and fast. Not only is there a cut on one side of the finger, but also on the other side of the same finger. Good thing I wasn't cutting with more force - could have taken off the entire finger.

As mentioned we went out for dinner - sort of a pre-birthday celebration. It was to the golf course. Bill, myself, Patrick and his girlfriend. Just a small gathering. I had the linguini - and it was delicious. Add to that, the pumpkin cheesecake for desert. The meals in the dinning room are always delicious and well presented. We came home afterwards and watched a movie "Alice in Wonderland." It was ok; as voted on by all of us.

Sent out birthday wishes to my cousin Ken. One year and one day older than me. Makes it easier to remember my age!!!!!

Quote: Received this from my girlfriend via an email today. Have seen it before, but thought it would be rather appropriate. You see tomorrow I turn 49 and I have been compiling a list of things I would like to do before I turn 50. I'm not going to reveal the entire list at once, but as I complete a task I will let everyone know. I started the list back in January, so there are a couple of things I have accomplished already and I will start posting them tomorrow.

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.

5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.

8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.

9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.

10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.

11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.

12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.

13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.

15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.

16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.

17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.

18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.

19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.

20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.

21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.

22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.

23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.

24. The most important sex organ is the brain.

25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.

26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?'

27. Always choose life.

28. Forgive everyone everything.

29. What other people think of you is none of your business.

30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.

31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

33. Believe in miracles.

34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.

35. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.

36. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.

37. Your children get only one childhood.

38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.

39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.

40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.

41. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

42. The best is yet to come...

43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

44. Yield.

45. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift."

Day 2 of September

I didn't think I would be writing in the Blog so soon. Couldn't sleep Thursday night. Actually that's not true. I was sleeping just fine (was having a gambling dream - and was up 48.00). Then I realized I had my user id and password for "card"work in my missing binder. I was up around 1:30 am trying to figure out a way to change the password. There wasn't so I had to send an email to H.O. requesting a change and admitting my "stupidity"! That's a good start to my second day of blogging.
Friday was a busy day. Attended to two of the three jobs. Worked Chapters in the morning. I swear people steal envelopes. Either that or they take a card, can't remember where they got it from, so grab an envelope from somewhere else. I sure hope my telxon gets here soon. Got a long list of orders.
In the afternoon picked up Sam and we headed to school. The teacher is such a nice lady, but she deals with a lot of very "rude" and impatient adult students. They were probably the same kids in school who always interrupted. This is one of those times where the quiet ones will fall through the cracks again!!!!
I was so tired when I got home; had one of those lack of sleep, not enough water, headaches. Then the son took the car to soccer practice and Bill went golfing. Tried to get some sleep, but my mind was too busy. Patrick went over to his cousins to get some help in math. Glad to see he's taking some forward steps to keep his marks up.
Didn't appreciate waking up to snow on Friday morning. It's bad enough we've had rain over the past week. Good bye summer (day), hello winter, fall you hid too long.

Quote: Brad Paisley "All you really need this time of year, Is a pair of shades and ice cold beer, And a place to sit somewhere near water" - oh we got lots of water, just not enough summer!!!

Day 1 of September

Well, I'm back. I tried to stay away. I thought it would get easier with time. Actually it did get easier with time. Somehow it seemed like everyday I needed to vent about something. Oh sure, I could have pulled out the written journal - but where did I leave it last; and who has my pen? Then it would be "oh, never mind - I'll remember!!!!"
I can honestly say, this is a great way to remember moments and although I have started back up, I am not going to pressure myself to write everyday. That is why I have put the message out on facebook, if you want to be added to the email that sends this out when I write, it will come to you directly.

Quick catch up - daughter has gone back to ontario by car; husband went with her and flew back to Calgary; daughter celebrated her 21st birthday in ontario; husband tore his achilles(sp) tendon(the night before they left for ontario) and hasn't got it fixed it. Son has started grade 12; loves his bio teacher; thinking neurology might be his calling; indoor soccer season is starting soon; tryouts are underway - same old stuff that way; son got drivers licence - now wants car all the time; I'm back to work at preschool and with Sam so I technically have three part time jobs.

Today was a nice day. Worked this morning at the preschool. There were 16 kids; 1/2 were from last year and 1/2 are new. Great group of kids teaching me new things; I popped into Safeways afterwards as I believe I left my Card book there. Couldn't find it anywhere. No big big deal, but annoying just the same.
Came home for a quick nap - dreamed about disobediant 3 and 4 year olds!!!!!

The son was home for supper, but Bill figured he needed to get some golfing in. Yes I did mention he's injured, but he is a "MAN" afterall. Sometimes he uses his cane, and we call him House!!!. So I ran over to visit with Robin and Miss Caylee!! Oh my gosh she has gotten so tall; and I didn't think it was possible, but much cuter! Poor Caylee though, by the time I got there she was so tired. Took her a few minutes to come around, but the wait was worth it. And by the time she was heading home, she left me pick her up!!! Good timing Miss Caylee. Had a short, but nice visit with Alisa - did I mention she is such a good mom. Patience of a saint!!!!!!

Had a nice phone call from Bill's cousin. Seems his daughter is getting married in January and family is invited. Did I mention the wedding was at a resort in Florida!!! Must clear the calendar for that one.

Anyway that's the day in a nutshell. Early to bed tonight as tomorrow is a two job work day.

Quote: Brad Paisley song "When you see a priceless French painting, I see a drunk naked girl. You think that riding a wild bull sounds crazy, And I'd like to give it a whirl.
Love makes a man do some things he ain't proud of, And in a weak moment I might walk your sissy dog, Hold your purse at the mal, But remember I'm still a guy."

I think that song fits good today.
