Day 7 of December

Where to start??
It has been a very relaxing week for me. Today was one of those dododododo days. I was asked to help out at a Shoppers Drug Mart in the NW with the card change over from Christmas to Valentine's Day. My sister Robin met me there to get an idea of what it is that has me memorized for a couple of hours a day. While we were putting up cards, this distinguished gentleman with long gray hair and gray beard walked by us. Without looking at Robin, I turned to get a better look, and before the guy got a foot away from me I said "Excuse me, would your name be Mr. Olsen - Mr. Olsen from King George Elementary and Junior High?" With a startled look in his eye - he answered yes. Now we are talking 37 - 39 years ago that Mr. Olsen was a "hot" teacher in our junior high class. He taught the special needs class and the art classes. I even had the nerve to ask him how come he couldn't remember me - even if he did teach over 1,000 in his teaching career. After a bit of ongoing reminicing, he mentioned he was actually having lunch tomorrow with two other teachers from King George - coincidence - only if that means "It was meant to be!" I introduced him to Robin, because she also went to King George, but three years earlier than I. We said our good-byes and then I turned to Robin, and although she didn't speak out, she too thought she recognized the gentleman as Mr. Olsen. We starting chatting, and I told her I should have mentioned to Mr. Olsen that all the girls in Junior High had a crush on him. I think Robin was glad I didn't. Then Mr. Olsen returned to find out my name - first and last, so he could mention it to the teachers at his lunch. Without hesitation, I told him that all the junior high girls had a crush on him. I think he blushed and I didn't quite hear his comment. After he left again, Robin gave me a jab on the arm. Maybe she was blushing too. My only thought was, really I haven't seen the guy in how many years, when will I see him again. It wasn't until I was driving home when I realized, he must be in his 60's now, or even older. But when we were in school he was old then (maybe it was his distinguished gray hair and mustache back then - and did I mention he was hot)!!! Even as I write it now, it brings a smile to my face. He is an artist now, Glen Olsen, http://www.glennolson.net/about.html, check out his website if you get a chance. A very inspirational man then and now!
So came home and cleaned up a bit; then it was time to pick up Patrick from soccer coaching. I guess my mom duties were just on hold. Off to meet Robin, Alisa and Miss Caylee for some supper at Boston Pizza - nothing like a little Caylee time (and Alisa time - cause she reads this) to finish off the day.
Still smiling!

Day 6 of december

First a quick sorry to De for getting my facts confused - I was googling the Globe and Mail which is an Eastern newspaper!!!! my bad. That is the second time google has given me wrong info. (see below)
(Depending on where you are in the world, December 21 or 22 marks the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere: the official beginning of winter, and the longest night of the year. (In Canada, the switch happens either late at night on the 21st, or early in the morning on the 22nd; for those on Eastern Standard Time, the new season begins at 12:30 a.m. December 22). )
So it is 6:30 pm boxing day and i am still in my pajamas. Was awake early; ate my breakfast and went back to bed. I had one snooze on the couch and have been pretty much putzing about the remainder of the day.
So I'm going to take us back to Chrismtas Eve. The Christmas tree is sparkling brightly; Ashley is at Ethan's house for dinner with his family and then playing video games; Patrick is out for dinner with Stephanie and her family and Bill at 8;45 pm is in bed!!!!!!!! Ho Ho ho. Santa could have stopped at our house first. I would have been the only one to see him. I think I now know who the song "I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus" got started!!!!!!
It was until a few hours later, when I finally climbed into bed, and then the noise began; Ashley came home and decided to clean out her car (after 6 months of living out of it). Patrick comes home alittle bit later with his girlfriend so they could exchange Christmas gifts. I should have just stayed awake until everyone was home.
Bill and I both slept in on Christmas morning; if you call8:30 am as sleeping in. We made an executive decision that the kids should be awake early as well; to teach them a Chrismtas lesson - or maybe it was just payback for when they were little and would want to get up early. So we sent Maya downstairs to share her puppy kisses with both. It didn't take them long to get out of bed.
The morning went smoothly with only a couple of instances that stood out. The first one was Ashley. She was in charge of handing out the gifts and she leaned over and poked her eye with a tree branch. Not the brightest star on the tree.....
the other cute moment was Maya. Last year Ashley opened her toy and Maya was so excited. This year, whenever Maya heard Ashley ripping the paper, she thought the gift was for her - what a memory. We all forget to get Maya something, except Patrick - Santa's helper. But instead of wrapping up her toy, he put it in a tiny bag. Ashley kept the gift on her lap and while she was handing out other gifts, Maya walked onto her lap and grabbed the handle of the bag in her mouth and went and sat down. She spent the next ten minutes trying to pull this stuffed toy out of the bag, and once she did, she wouldn't get close enough to Ashley so she could cut the tags off. She really is one of the family.
We cleaned up a little bit afterwards and then a few had naps. I proceeded to get things ready for our Christmas dinner at Robins.
The Christmas dinner at Robins was wonderful. Despite being a small place (with all the levels, it is actually a great size), we fit 18 people in the basement for a sit down dinner. The food was great, the company was great, and the Christmas spirit was everywhere. Hats off to my sister, who can pull something off so big, and make it seem effortless! Of course the biggest highlight of the evening was little Miss Caylee. Caylee will be three in April, but she is the most polite, curious, smart girl. She can work a camera phone like a pro. I want to share a comment that Patrick made to me when we got into our car. And remember this is an 18 year old boy. He says "Mom, Caylee is so cute and well behaved!" Alisa's done a great job, she's a great mother!" I agreed completely and praised him for his great observance!
After we left Robin's we headed for a quick visit to Ben and Karen's to see the Wee half. We were there for an hour or two. Linden was already in bed and eveyone was getting tired. I was glad to get home and climb into my bed last night. It was the best sleep I've had in the past few weeks.
Now it is the countdown to New Years!!!!!!!

Day 5 of December

Wow ... 6 days until Christmas.
Even better, December 22nd is the shortest day of the year - meaning, the days will soon be lighter-longer and before we know it spring will be here and bye bye to the winter blues for everyone.
Memories: December 23rd, 1994 was when we lost my Uncle Casey; This was my only uncle on my Dad's side of the family. Uncle Casey was quite a character - as far as I can remember he was always old. But my best memory of him is the way Auntie Bea always took care of him - "oh Casey" she would say. If my calculations are correct, Auntie Bea will be turning 100 next year.
On December 30, 1971 - My Grandfather Jim Fraser passed away. I feel like I should say my Grandpa, but I really didn't know the man. I was 10 years old when he passed away, and I don't have any recollection of interaction with him. Wait, thats not true - what I do remember was he would be sleeping in his chair in the living room and I would need to go upstairs and I would try and tip toe past him, as quietly as possible and he would open his eyes and jump. Up until this very moment I used to think he was trying to scare me - but when writing and talking about it, really, maybe that was his way of trying to be funny - only to a little girl, it was scary. That might explain why he did it all the time. the other memory is very similar to Uncle Casey's, in that I can remember Grandma always calling him "Daddy". In reflecting, the woman may not have seemed strong woman at the time, but they took care of their husbands; out lived them and, went on to be very indepandant people.
Anyway, speaking of strong woman, i am reading a new book. It is the Diane Keaton biography "Then Again!" I haven't gotten too far in it, but I have been inspired already. Diane writes a lot about her mother and one of the things her mother recommended is that everyone should write their own autobiography. She kept many journals and by putting them together, Diane was able to get a glimpse of her mother's life. Hmmmm. I see something coming out of this. I'm thinking, maybe beginning in the new year - I might start my own autobiography - go through all my journals etc. Even thinking ab0ut it now has my head spinning - remembering this, remembering that.......
First to get through Christmas........ and enjoy it to it's fullest.

Day 4 of December

Memories: Last night - Prince - totally was not on our schedule. When we first heard Prince was coming to Calgary, Bill was on the bandwagon. Of course we checked out he tickets and by the time we looked them up - there were floor tickets available (at the very back) or first section tickets, but behind the stage. Hmmm - there were even a few V I P tickets in the table section right by the stage. After humming and hawwwwing - we realized we were too late to get good seats for the value. Disappointed - yes; devistated - not. So around 4:30 Wednesday afternoon, I get a text from Bill (must be important because Bill never texts me) He won two tickets in a draw a work - Do we want to go? My mind immediately says YES; but my body is going - I'm too old for this. But we went and had a great time. I did come to realize that I am still a Michael Jackson fan - back when Prince was popular, he and Michael were rivals and I always preferred Michael. And of course when you go to a concert with Bill you are guaranteed two things - one - he sits during the entire concert (even when there are people standing in front of him) and two, he'll run into somebody he knows. And we did. A couple came and sat beside Bill and turns out he knew the girl from the industry when he was employeed with Temple Energy. Of course I recognized the gentleman from somewhere, but couldn't put my finger on it until he introduced himself. Jamie Macoun - I was pretty sure he used to be a Flames hockey player - and sure enough - he was. I even went to my faithful source when I got home to confirm. Yup!!!
Nap anyone!!!

Day 3 of December

I know - two days in a row. Some of you may have to pick yourselves up off the floor.
Two important things to talk about.
First, I learned something new from my son last night - hmh. Now if anyone knows what this means - my hat goes off to you. I had to drag it out of my son. We were communicating through Facebook. (not sure why we have the family plan on the cell phones) I reminded Patrick to book his shuttle bus to the airport. His reply - mhm. I asked him what it meant - he said to sound it out. So I tried. I got mmm ha mmmm. Again I asked him and his answer was - hahahahaha ask Ashley. Really!!! Of course Ashley wasn't home and I wasn't about to go away without knowing. So I asked if it was the same as saying uh huh without moving your lips. taaa daaa, I got it. So now I've figured it out, but the mom in me couldn't leave it alone - what was the point of mhm - and then not wanting to explain it. If it was not wanting to type too many letters, you would think OK, would have been easier. When I mentioned this theory - all I got was sarcasam......So you want me to type less!!!!! Remember, All I was trying to do was remind him to book his shuttle bus . I should have used my favorite answer finder "Google" because sure enough, thats what shows up. WTH (what the heck) and IGU (I give up)
Well that was last night - and this morning is this morning. And what a good start it was. Bill left around 6:00 am and I turned on the radio and won the wake up call on country 105. Tickets to Jubilations Dinner Theatre and a yearly pass to Heritage Park. All it takes is a LPE (little positive energy)
I think I'll start a dictionary of my own letters.

Day 2 of December

Can you say procrastination: I must really be trying to avoid doing my Christmas Cards; why else would I be blogging without Alisa and De bugging me!
For some reason I am not getting into the card mode. I have the list; the letter and even some envelopes ready to go - but to sit down and write out cards is not on the top of my list. So if you people get their cards a little late; well now you know why.
Got home this afternoon from the big Christmas party at the Banff Springs Hotel. The oil industry must be doing well because in addition to Bill's company Christmas party, there were four other oil companies holding their own parties. We even had to wear colored wrist bands to stop people from crashing everyone's parties. That might have to do with the free bar.
The food was spectacular as always; and I thought the band/music was incredible. There was a jazz trio playing up to and including most of the meal. Then after supper was a rock band from Regina. I thought they were really good, but Bill said he wasn't impressed. Although the music was a little loud and made it difficult to talk - hence why people should be dancing and not talking. Despite the wonderful food and atmosphere of the hotel, and the great music, the actual party was ok. I enjoy meeting new people, but sometimes knowing I won't remember them next year, or even if they are going to be with the company next year; makes it hard to want to connect. Even the scotch on the rocks didn't help me. (I was trying everything to get in the spirit) It sure helped my breath better and sleep all night!!!!)
When we got up this morning, Bill headed off to the gym and gave me a 2o minutes warning. So I quickly showered and got ready; then we headed off to the brunch. Most of the people had already left by the time we got there at 11:00. It had snowed over night and the roads were slick. The drive back was slow; 50% caused by the weather and 50% because there were 5 oil company parties leaving at the same time and obviously heading back to Calgary.
Needless to say I had an afternoon nap before unpacking and starting laundry.
Just waiting for Ashley to get home and see how Ms. Maya did over the weekend.
This time next week, Patrick should be home and maybe we'll get the tree up then.
Off to read for awhile - cards will get done tomorrow night.

Day 1 of December

Memories; So many - it was two years ago on December 3rd that we lost Mom Wee. Knowing she and Dad Wee are together gives me some comfort.
Bill celebrated his 51st birthday on December 1st. Actually the celebration didn't happen until Sunday the 4th. Had dim sum at the house. Way too much food; even Ashley was getting sick of the left overs.
Soccer is winding down for the Christmas break. There will be soccer camps over the holidays - not sure if I'm needed for those.
Ashley is back from her conference in Florida. In addition to all she learned there, her real lesson came when her phone bill arrived last night. Who knew that 1000 texts could add up. $700.00 odd dollars later...... I'm pretty sure this is one lesson she won't ever forget. Both kids are just asking for money for Christmas - Ashley for obvious reasons now; and patrick so he can pay for his trip to Thailand in June. Works for me. I too have a very short list - a turkey baster and a flour sifter - oh wait - I went shopping yesterday and bought them already. Really my list is empty - What do you get someone who has everything she needs !
I'm making an attempt at my Mom's scotch shortbread again this year. This is the third year and maybe the last; depending on how it turns out. The last two years were disasters. I'll keep you posted on the result.
Looks like we'll be spending Christmas at the Samers/Chan/Jesson's this year. There are going to be a lot of people 17ish at last count. We'll probably drop in to Karen and Ben's after dinner for a visit; if they are still hosting the Wee dinner.
tonight is Bill's company Christmas party at the Banff Springs Hotel. Looking forward to it. The food there is always amazing. And because this is the first year at this company party; I don't even need a new outfit. I did get some new shoes and earrings.
Well I better get my act together - Ashley and Maya are going to need some munchies and food for tonight.

Day 6 of November

And the last day of November I might add.
Memory: This time last year I was planning a 50th birthday party for Bill. NOT - he wouldn't let me. Considered doing it this year, but one year older does not make for a new party animal.
It has been a busy week. The soccer job has become a little more intense this week. Two of the coaches are away, so with the fill ins, I'm doing a little more jobs outside my comfort zone. Ok, that's not entirely correct - I get to be bossy.
Bill and I had a Grey Cup Party on Sunday. I believe by definition that by having at least two people there (Bill and I) it was a party. We actually sat and watched the entire game. We did split up at half-time to our respected offices, but regrouped when the second half started. When the kids were little, we used to have what we called "picnic suppers"; usually about once a month. It was when we had cold finger food; meats, cheese, crackers, veggies, and fruit on a big try and we got to sit on a blanket on the floor; in front of the tv and eat our supper. The kids loved it and it was our special family time that everyone looked forward to. So thats what Bill and I did for our Grey Cup party; minus the blanket sitting on the floor - hey we've got some nice comfortable lazy boys recliners now!!
Just got off my Facebook page, where I read an amazing article posted by my cousin. If you have young children or know of friends with young children, they will enjoy the read. I've reposted it on Facebook.
Also off to have a belated birthday lunch with my good friend Rose. I had a nice, small breakfast so I could enjoy a big, relaxing lunch.
In addition to my treadmill today, I guess I'll get lots of exercise shovelling the driveway and sidewalk this morning. The big dump was inevitable!
Have a great Wednesday.

Day 5 of November

MEMORY: 10 years ago today, 1991, there was a Grey Cup party being held at our home in Lloydminster. The teams were Toronto vs Calgary, in Winnipeg. I actually couldn't remember the outcome of the game and had to google the results. Obviously Calgary lost, or I would have remembered (so I think)
Happy Thanksgiving to all my American Friends. I almost wish I was having turkey this weekend.
Busy with work this week. Hopefully the weekend will give me a chance to catch up on everything that I have let slide over the past few days. Did a bit of Christmas shopping after work today, and then realized, there are still a couple of birthdays before Christmas - the most difficult one being Bill. Will have to think hard on this one.

Day 4 of November

Memory: I got a nice email today from my friend Cheryl in Dallas. It brought back some great memories from when she lived here and when we visited all our friends in Dallas. I think it might be time for our winter trip back there. Must talk to Bill about that one.
Speaking of Bill - he has been at his new job for a week now, and I think he's enjoying it. Of course with a new job, comes those extra hours needed to get established.
The past weekend was terribly cold here. Actually when I say terribly I mean, it was cold, but not as cold as it can get. But enough that it brings those winter blues to the forefront. It was a good weekend to get caught up on everything, including work.
Ashley was in B.C. for a horse coaching clinic, so it was pretty quiet around the house.
Talked to the son via Skype and he's trudging (not sure if that's a word) away. Sounds like he is very busy with exams, and more exams.
I mentioned that I am back on Facebook (via Maya). (a picture of my maya is a clue) I finally convinced Patrick to accept me again as a friend. I'm glad I did because he's got some great Halloween pictures up. Part of the reason I went back on Facebook was some pressure from my friend De. I guess she must be pretty busy with preparing for thanksgiving, because I haven't seen her on Facebook much!!!!!!!
My girlfriend Terry's daughter has also started a blog. She is doing a "artistic" challenge. If you get a chance to view the blog - it is http://jlcreativitychallenge.blogspot.com/ - she is a very talented young lady.
Anyway, I've covered all I can for this day - time to get some paper work done and go spend some Me time.

Day 3 of November

MEMORY: Give thanks to all those who gave for us.
I came across a great quote; the author is unknown "Freedom is never free!"

In addition to Remembrance Day, this is a pretty neat day; just for the fact it is the 11th day of the 11th month of 2011. Apparently that won't happen again for another 100 years - someone else will have to blog about it.

This past couple of weeks have also had other memories. On Dec 3, 2010 we lost a "small town southern man". It's been a year without Uncle Len and I'm sending all my memories of him out to his family.

I have also been a busy lady for the past couple of weeks. These November and December birthdays seem to just come up all at once. So I am officially acknowledging that I did not make all my cards this month. But I did make a couple of birthday slide shows which I think will make up for my indescretion.

Some good news "BILL IS NOW FINALLY EMPLOYED!" That yelling is out of pride and not relief. Ok, maybe a little of both. So he starts work on Monday. Now I know some people will be asking me the details, so I've put a little blurb in

Legacy is pleased to announce the addition of Bill Wee to the management team as Vice President, Operations. Mr. Wee is a professional engineer with 28 years of oil and natural gas experience in reservoir, exploitation, and production engineering, drilling, completions, facilities, field operations, joint ventures, marketing and acquisitions. He holds Master of Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering degrees from the University of Calgary. He is a member of APEGGA and has served on council of the Vermilion Branch of APEGGA.

So it doesn't look like Bill will be doing any traveling out of the country - unless you count Estevan or Manitoba. The process had been going on for about a month now - and every day I kept asking if it was official yet. And yesterday, I got the word. Now I have to get back into my old routine, which will now be a new routine once again.

That's it for now - off to celebrate 5 birthdays day - and I'm pretty sure there will be at least four birthday cakes.

(PS DE) I guess we won't have to move to Texas to work for Todd!! (shucks)

Day 2 of November

MEMORY: 88 years ago today, in 1923, my mom Helen Zoback was born. She was born in Lethbridge. Her Mom and Dad (Edith and Jim) were living at Jim's parents place at the time. Edith and Jim had no car and there was lots of snow that year. Edith went to Lethbridge before her due date and stayed with a friend of her mom's named Mrs. Fiester.
I'm so grateful that I took the time a few years back to sit down with my Mom and go through our history. The best process was to look at pictures together, and Mom would have memories about or around the time the picture was taken. I then took all the pictures and divided them up between myself and 3 siblings and made a family book. I treasure this book and look at it often.
Also on this day in 1918 my Dad, Edward Zoback was born. Dad would have been 93 today. Unfortunately we lost him in 1983 before he turned 65. To this day, I still think of cool it was that both Mom and Dad had the same birthday...
So Saturday night was the time to turn back the clocks one hour. So instead of being awake at 5:30 am, I woke up at 4:30 am. I tried to go back to sleep, but really I figured I might as well get up while I had the energy and do some stuff - I can always nap later. The day if going to be filled with household chores and then we are taking Mom out for dinner for her birthday. What do you get someone who is turning 88, lives in small quarters, doesn't have a lot of wants, except for being with her family - a dinner out with her family of course. I might have to sneak her in one of her Chi-chi's again. She just loves those.
Well off to get something done because the sun rises (and my eyes close once again)

Day 1 of November

It is the 2nd day of November, and to date, we have only had 1 tiny bit of snowfall. I think we are still in Calgary! Luckily the day there was snow, I didn't have to leave the house until the afternoon and by then the snow had melted.
MEMORY: 18 years (and some odd days) Patrick celebrated his first Halloween. He wasn't quite walking yet (I guess at 5 months that was a big expectation) but he went as a cat. He had a black onesy and I put black socks on him. Then I took some black material and made a tail and pinned it to his bottom. Lastly I took some cardboard and cut it into ear shapes and covered it with the same black material. I attached the ears to black elastic and put in around his head. Ashley went as a Ninja turtle. Again using green clothes she had as the base costume; I then took a tin roaster and covered it with green material; used Bill's black suspenders (I think they were the suspenders from his wedding tux) and somehow attached them to the roaster and Ashley wore the shell. A mask and green gloves finished off the costume. I vaguely remember that the mask was a different color, because Ashley was a big follower of the Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles and I'm pretty sure she was her favorite "Michaelangelo". Now I know some of you are impressed I can remember her favorite, but it is stuck in my mind, because that is also the name that she had wanted to give her new baby brother!!!
It's only Wednesday, but a busy week all the same. I love all my jobs, but boy trying to stay organized for all of them takes more time than I had imagined. It's not the jobs that keep me busy, but the organizing and staying on top of the details. I worked monday at the soccer camp; all the coaches dressed up in costumes, because it was Halloween; here was my costume. I dressed in brown pants; brown socks; brown shirt; wore a string of leaves all around me; I had a birds nest on my left arm and a stuffed bird on my right arm. What was my costume - De, use your imagination...............................................................................Wait for it..........................................
I was "An Empty Nester!". Of course the bird on the one arm was one of those kids trying to get back into the nest!!!! I know the three and four yeas olds thought I was a tree - and that's ok too, but sometimes I just like to make myself laugh......
Today is a busy day again - cards, soccer and food for Bill. He's still unemployed, but I think he is starting to grow into this roll and he might even be enjoying himself. It helps that I'm out of the house for most of the day too.
Well if this day is going to get off to a good start, I better get on the treadmill and make some headway.
Happy hump day!

4th Day of October

Memory: 7 years ago today - in 2004, Bill and I attended a Jubilations Dinner Theatre - CSI Moosejaw. I obviously won the tickets, because I don't see any other way I could have convinced Bill to go to Jubilations. He's not crazy about the food there. It's not the greatest, but most of the time, the show makes up for it. It's hard to believe that some form of CSI has been on television since then, and probably longer.

It was a very lazy weekend, except for Friday night. We went to Yuk Yuks with my sister Robin, and my niece Tracey and her husband Henry. There were two lady comics and a gentleman MC. The MC was just as funny as the ladies. The comedy was good, and call me a prude, but I think it could have been just as funny without all the swearing; I mean how many times can you say F%#* and get a laugh; and it wasn't even being used in the right context. We hit the casino briefly afterwards. Somehow it's just not the same as Vegas - you can lose money in Vegas and still say "Hey I was in Vegas!" But somehow losing $20.00 at a local casino just seems like a waste of money! We call came back to our house afterwards and of couse Henry got the Tequila lesson. I hope Henry was able to get up for work on Saturday.
Saturday night was somewhat quiet at home. Bill went to a rugby party - to watch the Worlds Cup on TV. Ashley was out with the boyfriend; and I did a little kareokeeing (sp) . I don't think Maya had as much fun as I did.
So today is get my chi together day and get something done. Got all my stale bread made in bread crumbs. Laundry finished and Ashley's bed stripped. Poor girl has been sleeping on a Futon since she got home; so we're going to sell it and get her a proper bed. During this process I gave myself a big goose egg. I was trying to take the slip cover off the heavy, heavy mattress and my hand slipped and my fist went right into my forehead. After a little under the breath cursing, I couldn't help but laugh when I realized how funny it would sound when I had to explain the goose egg.
Hope everyone has a wonderful week - I intend to.

Day 3 of October

Well it's the 20th of October. I have missed a couple of memories during the week. October 15th was 53 years since my sister was born. I don't remember the day at all - oh wait, that would be because I wasn't born yet. I hope I am as perky as she is at 53.
We had a surprise visit on Monday from a friend from Edmonton. Bill and Neil did their grad studies together at the U of A. We got to know Neil and Gwen quite well, in fact they were at our wedding and Ashley named her first fish after Neil. We figured it had been more than 10 years since we seen each other. We still keep in contact through Christmas cards each year. It was a very delightful surprise.
Another surprise was; I won tickets through a magazine (I forgot where I entered) to see the new movie "Puss N Boots". It is about the cat from the Shrek movies. The best part is we are going to see it as a family (minus the missing one) At least it is a movie we can all agree upon.
Speaking of movies, last night Shaunan and I went to see a classic "North by Northwest". It is an old Alfred Hitchcock movie with Cary Grant. Once a month the Crowfoot (and Chinook I believe) theartres offer an old movie to watch for $5.00. Now I'm pretty sure at the time the movie originally came out it was a thriller. But fast forward to today and it was a thriller/comedy. The plot was very good, but the acting was so bad. From the statue poses to the glove in the hand for the damsel in distress. Having said that, Cary Grant was a very good looking guy, and how could you not melt with that voice. I can't wait for next month to see "Ben Hur."
After work today, it will be clean up the office time. Papers are piling up.
Have a great Thursday.

NOTE: Sending positive energy to my girlfriend De - seems she is in a competition with the allergy season - and sinus infection: According to Louise Hay "Heal your Body", the sinus infection is from "an irritation to one person; someone close!" You need to be thinking "I declare peace and harmony indwell me and surround me at all times. All is well!" love you girl

Day 2 of October

MEMORY: On this day, 11 years ago - so that would be 2000, Bill, Patrick and Amanda (a friend of Patricks) and I attended a Robert Munch concert at the Jack Singer. It was a great show. That means Patrick would have been 8 years old.
As you can tell, October hasn't been a great month for blogging. This past week has been a busy one. Tuesday night I took my sister to a Stage West production; actually it was one of their concert series ' Women of Soul" It was three ladies; - one was the lead singer and two back up singers. Well they did a Diana Ross and Supreme imitation (outfits and all); a Donna Summer imiation and lastly a Tina Turner imitation. The singing was exceptional, but I think the group needs to tweek their stage presence a little more. Wednesday I spent the day with Miss Caylee; or as she is officially known now "Princess Caylee!" I was ready for a morning nap; but Caylee kept me awake until the afternoon. We painted; made crafts; drank tea; did stickers; played on the computer - and that was all before noon. After lunch, we both went down for a nap. At 3:00 we headed outside to blow some bubbles. We took a little walk and Princess Caylee decided we should go to the park. Alisa had left me a map, but it was in the house, so I asked Caylee if she knew the way and low and behold she did. Did I mention, she's not three yet?
So after the park, back to the house; more tea, more books and more computer. It was a fun, but busy day. I think I am getting to old for the interacting babysitting. Needless to say, I was in bed by 9:00 pm on Wednesday.
Today was spent catching up on errands. Had to run Mom to the Dr.s to get a quick prescription renewal. When we showed up at the office, they didn't have us down for an appointment. Great - before I could get too wound up - they informed me that the appointment was for next Friday (that explains why I couldn't find it on my calendar) Luckily the Dr. had an opening an hour later, so we headed downstairs to the mall for a coffee and a quick shop. Today was the first day for the new Iphone 4S. You should have seen all the people lined up to get into the Apple store - there must have been over 200 people. I think the cinnamon store was probably making a profit today, because the line went right past them.
Well Bill is off to the Wine and Food Festival tonight - maybe he'll make some contacts and find job. There isn't much left to do around the house. Gardens are done; weeding is done; patio furniture put away. I might have to lend him out, just to keep my sanity.
Enjoy the weekend.

Day 1 of October

Where did September go?
Memory: In 2001 I was seeing my family doctor quite frequently to discuss ways of dealing with depression. I was told him I was trying to talk my husband into buying me a dog, and asked if he could write a prescription for that; so he did. Here is how the prescription read:
"It is a well know fact that pets improve depressed conditions. In particular Dr. IWAN ADOG has shown the efficancy of a small bichon shitzu in helping manage these problems."
Dr. Yee actually wrote this out on a real prescription notice. I loved Dr. Yee. Whether he agreed with some of my suggestions or not, he always had an open mind. Needless to say it took me we another 5 years and a lot of tequila to convince Bill I should have a dog; and I traded in the Bichon shitzu for a chihuahua. I figured if I can't find the time to get myself a haircut, when would I have time to take the dog for a haircut.

Well, it's Sunday, and the weather turned out beautful - there is reason we have autumn. The trees are so beautiful (despite most of their leaves landing in our yard) I've got a roast on the BBQ, potatoes in the oven, asparagus on the stove, and two margaritas down already. (you can take the lady out of Vegas, but you can't take Vegas out of the lady)

Next week in our Thanksgiving (De, I hope you remember to celebrate your inheirited heritage). The son is coming home for the weekend and has promised to be available for our dinner.

This is the last week of golfing at the course for Bill, so looks like I'll be back to making regular weekly suppers again - I love being a golf widow.
Busy week coming up - back to three regular jobs and subbing for a fourth. Despite how busy it sounds, it's still only part time hours - and did I mention, I love my jobs.
Have a great week.

Day 9 of September

Memory: Ok, this memory is only a few days old - but WOW, Garth Brooks in Vegas was amazing. Sorry I meant AMAZING. Talented musician, storyteller, entertainer; down to earth. Just Garth and his acoustic guitar. Let me start at the beginning and only include the highlights:
Bill and I left Calgary on Friday, Sept 23rd for Vegas. We arrived at our hotel around 10:00ish; Had a quick bite to eat; a pitcher of margaritas and back to our room;
Saturday we walked the strip; picked up our tickets early for Garth; and did a little gambling. Saturday night we met Tracey and Henry at the Wynn; again we grabbed a quick bite (actually the service was horrible and the food expensive) and a quick drink (quick service, but expensive drinks). Then we headed into our show at 10:30 and for the next 2 and some odd hours, was thoroughly entertained. If it hadn't been so hot in vegas, I would have worn my new Garth Brooks hoodie. Then we headed back to our own hotels.
Sunday morning; did a little more gambling; hit the pool; and then made our way down the strip to the Monte Carlo. We met up with Tracey and Henry again and went to see the Jabberwokkie show. It too was very good. Then we walked over to the Hawaiian Market across the street and we ended up at a Kareokee bar (unintentially of course). Well that is where the night began. I did everything in my power to get the other three to come up and sing, and I almost had Henry convinced he could sing Johnny Cash. I sang my two favorites and we spent the rest of the night being entertained by everyone around us. We were sitting with a Charlie Sheen look a like (only when he had his hat on and his head turned a certain way.) It was 2:30 in the morning when we finally headed back to our own hotels again.
Monday morning, Bill's cousin Lora and Mike drove up from CA to visit. They stayed in the same hotel and we spent the next two days visiting and gambling. We left Las Vegas Tuesday night around 9:00 pm and was back in Calgary by 12:45 Wednesday morning.
I think it is going to take me months to re couperate. What a great birthday present and now I have one more thing to cross off my list - seeing Garth Brooks.

I have rejoined Facebook. Hopefully I'll be playing it smart this time. I have signed up at Maya Wee, so if you get a friend request or want on the friend list, just tag me. I won't be posting a lot of pictures, or sharing a lot of info (so I say now). But at least De will be able to keep me informed on what is going on in her life.........

I better get some paper work done because I plan on being in bed at 9:00 again tonight.

Day 8 of September

Memory: Ok, so this memory is a day late - but I was a little busy yesterday. So let's pretend it is Tuesday September 20th (we don't have to relive it again). 50 years ago, Helen Zoback gave birth to the most amazing; cute, tiny and smart baby. (and apparently humble) that would mean that my mom was 37 years old when she had me. For the longest time, I used to think I had been an oops; then it dawned on me; Robin was only three years older than me, so she must have been the oops and I was the playmate. Too bad it took us til our 20's to want to play together!!!!! thank goodness we have each other now.
So my actual birthday day was wonderful. Received many birthday wishes from friends and family, and I didn't even have to be on Facebook to get them (not looking good for my Facebook re-instatement De) Got a surprising phone call my my cousin Ken in Grand Prairie. He is exactly 1 year and 1 day older than me. It was so nice to catch up and reminice. I worked in the morning, and then attending a funeral in the afternoon. Our dear friend Ray's grandmother passed away. This amazing lady was 99 years old - 1 month short of 100. Up until a few years ago, she was still living on her own; and maintaining her garden. A lovely, lovely lady and a very nice memorial.
Then last night my son Skyped me - for my birthday - one of the best presents. I just needed to see for myself that he was doing well and enjoying himself. Seems he's misplaced his razor charger, so the face was a little scruffy. He'll be home for Thanksgiving.

This morning was a catch up morning. Ran errands in the morning; work in the afternoon; bill payment and paper work this evening, and now I'm going to attempt to give myself a manicure.
If it doesn't turn out, I'll be visiting my nail lady early Friday morning.
Enjoy this great Wednesday - hug a friend and say hi to a stranger.

Day 7 of September

Memory: 67 Years ago today, My mom's best friend, Lance Corporal Emily Buchanan passed away. She was 20 years old. She was training at an Alberta base, and the vehicle she was in, rolled over and she tried to jump out a window and the truck rolled onto her. Mom had talked about her friend many times, but today when I told her of the anniversary, she beganning filling in more blanks. Emily had just got married; Barry was 5 months old. I knew she had died at a base, but Mom didn't mention the vehicle accident. I have some pictures of Emily in my Family album. Emily and Mom were members of the CGIT. (mom used to call it, the Cutest Girls in Town).

So my 50 list is still ongoing. There are a couple more items that I should be able to cross off by the end of the month. There are a few that are dreams, but we all know dreams can come true so they are staying on my list.

The countdown is on for Vegas and Garth Brooks. I can hear him now. "I've got friends in low, places....." I am ready to be blown away.

Haven't heard too much from the son; he sounds like he is very busy (when we text). Maybe I'll hear from him tomorrow.

I am still having a little bit of Facebook withdrawal. I was taking some dishes out of Ashley's room this morning, and low and behold, she left her Facebook page signed on. Now I figured, "you leave dishes in your room - facebook page is fare game. " So I did what I had to do - and I'm hoping Ashley really does think she has the best mom in the whole wide world!!!!!! She's not home yet, so not sure if she knows about it yet!

I have invested in a new toy. I used some birthday money and bought a KoBo reader. So far I am liking it. A little more complicated than I anticipated, but once I figure out the library borrowing, it will be great. Right now I'm reading a non fiction book about Lisa and Laura Ling - two sisters; journalists and Laura's experience being held in North Korea - it was in the news a couple of year ago.
Anyway, now I am babbling - off to watch the new episode of two and a half men and then to bed.

Day 6 of September

Memory: Twenty-two years ago today, Anne and Brian were married!!! It is probably just as easy to remember their Anniversary as it is mine. Why? As previously mentioned Ashley was born on September 13th. On September 16th, Bill picked Ashley and myself up from the Foothills hospital and brought us home. We changed quickly (probably squeezed in a feed too) and headed to a beautiful wedding. We made it just before the bridesmaids started walking down the aisle. After the wedding service we headed back home for a quick nap (or I did) and then it was off to the reception in Chinatown. Ashley never made one sound during the ceremony or the reception. I'm pretty sure I wasn't very popular with some of the Chinese Grandma's for bringing a newborn to a wedding - or even for leaving the house at all. That is pretty much all I remember of the night, other than the fire alarm went off at the reception (from the cooking) and Ashley still never woke up. That must have been where she became immune too loud noises and to this day, she can still sleep through most alarms.....

Sorry De for not discussing the Facebook decision before I acted. We might actually have to go back to the old fashion way of......sending emails!! or we can chat through Skype (with or without the pictures) I hope you will c.c. me all the details about the puppies or maybe you should just set up a blog for them..hmmmm.

And in case I haven't told them yet, Happy Anniversary Anne and Brian!

One week today til my date with Mr. Garth Brooks!!! And it's also about time to review my 50 list and see what's still left! I'll be happy with a 50% or better result.

Off to clean!

Day 5 of September

Memory: It was 4 years ago today we lost a very special man; Wesley Yuen. Both Bill and I had gone to school with Wes; I, in Elementary school and Bill in Junior High school. Then after high school, through mutual friends, we reconnected. Wes passed away way to young. He had married later in life and had a very young son, whom he adored. RIP Wesley.

I did something yesterday that I didn't think would ever happen. I closed my Facebook account. Don't get me wrong, I loved Facebook, mostly for looking at pictures and playing games, and staying in touch with good friends and family. Then I realized I already stay in touch with these same people through phone; texting and my blog. I was letting my emotions get the best of me when reading some comments; so the best choice for me was to get rid of Facebook all together. The nice thing about a blog is, I can voice my opinions; I can whine and complain, and if people don't want to read it, they can just delete the email. I have added a couple of new people to the mailing list; Having said that, if there is anybody on the list that needs or want to be taken off (sometimes too many emails can be frustrating), please don't hesitate to let me know. The blog can be accessed withough being on the mailing list. Trust me, my feelings won't be hurt (just my pride - just kidding)

So I'm not sure why I am up so early this morning, oh wait, maybe going to bed at 9:00 pm is the reason. I am finding I am getting more done during the day and I am ready for bed at a decent time.

Off to work this morning, then hopefully a relaxing afternoon, that might include a dip in the hot tub.
Have a wonderful Thursday.

Day 4 of September

Todays memory! Actually I have two; the first one goes back to 1989. I had woke up in the morning with more contractions. We had been to the hospital the night before, but sent home for the usual reasons. Around 10:00 am my brother-in-law, who worked for the city at the time, showed up for coffee. I was in the bathroom trying not to scream, and Bill was chit chatting. I calmly opened the door and suggested he ask Doug to leave. So much for keep the labour a secret!. We headed to the Foothills hospital and it was a long afternoon. They gave me an epidural (twice as the first one missed) and the evening continued on. One of my biggest regrets was having the epidural because I couldn't feel a thing, I had difficulty pushing Ashley out. I remember Bill kept hoping she would be born soon, as he had a golf tournament the morning of the 13th. Ashley must have wanted to please her Dad, but shortly after midnight (or there after) she made her entrance into this world. The first words out of Bill's mouth and the doctor's was "Look at those dimples!" ( and I think that was the right side up!) That memory would be hard to top for the day.
On September 12th, 1999, we were at a Flames game in Calgary against the Montreal Canadians. I don't remember the outcome; I don't remember where our seats were, but I'm pretty sure I was watching Harvey the Hound; my usual hockey past time.
This past weekend was pretty quiet. Bill spent most of the weekend over at his brother's, helping build a shed. Then he'd come home, clean up and head out to golf. Ashley worked all weekend, and so I accomplished a lot of stuff that I never got a chance to do during the week; laundry and vacuuming.....
Looking foward to a much quieter week.

Day 3 of September

This blog is dedicating to remembering. Of course the most poignant remembering right now is ten years ago, Sept 11. As the Alan Jackson song says "Where were you when the world stop turning. I remember I was in the kitchen cleaning up, and as it was happening, I was wondering how the teachers were going to explain this horrific incident to the students. I can remember wondering if there was anyone I knew who lived in New York! I remember feeling proud when I heard some passengers on a plane were fighting with the high jackers. I remember wondering how evil someone could be, to kill so many innocent people and how they could believe they were doing it in the name of some God!. After a few days, I remember thinking, this happens all the time in other countries, and now because it has happened in a place that is so close to home, I have much more compassion for what is going on "all over the world!" Prayers, wishes, positive energy and forever gratitude to all the hero's that day.
I have other memories to share as well. Finally the "stocking saga" is over for Mom. I took her Friday to get her final fitting and her new socks. She was so pleased. It is shocking how much time has passed since the first time she was fitted for her compresion stockings. The first time, she put on her "rubber" gloves and got those stockings on in no time at all. Yesterday, she ran out of steam before she even got the first stocking up to her heel. She was a little dejected that she was going to have to call the ladies in to help her put her stockings on. Of course it wouldn't be an outing with mom without going for a meal. She wanted Chinese Food (at 3:30 in the afternoon) I wasn't enthused at the time, but by the time we made it through rush hour traffic from the SE to the NW, it was 4:45 - and I was hungry now too. Mom was having a craving for a Chi Chi - they remind her of her one exoctic holiday to Hawaii with Dad. So without hesitating, as soon as we sat at our table, I ordered one. Not going to lie, it sounded very appealing - but one of us had to drive. Mom took one sip, and the smile on her face was worth any reading she might get on her diabetic blood check!! (It didn't help that she was having chinese food and she had an orange slurpee when I picked her up.) I spoke to Mom this morning and her reading was high, and she was a little tired today - but I still think it was worth it - she's 87!
So I'm waiting for a skype call from the son. I heard on the news that there was an earth quake just off the coast of Vancouver Island. I'm not too worried, as his Facebook message said he didn't even feel it - and if there was one, it must have been caused by all the partying! Oh great - something else to worry about. The day before there was a first year student at Acadia University that died of alcohol poisening. He was registered in the same program Patrick was going to attend at Acadia. There are angels out there....
So I'm hoping to dedicate some more blogs to memories. I've gone through some of my memorbillia and will try and write about them when they happened. If you have any memories to share, feel free to put them in the comments.
Remember to give a big hug to someone you love. And live for the moment!
My moment to clean is now!

Day 2 of September

How many Waterloo students does it take to change a lightbulb?
FIVE - one to design a nuclear-powered one that never needs chabnging; one to figure out how to power the rest of Waterloo using that nuclear-light-bulb; two to install it; and one to write the computer program that controls the wall switch.

How many UVic students does it take to change a lightbulb?
NONE - Llava lamps don't burn out man!!!

Little University humour as Patrick and some of his friends are off to a brand new world. Patrick left this morning on a 8:00 am flight. Poor guy had three suitcases to lug around. I hadn't planned on coming along, but Patrick asked me Friday night if I would come to the airport too. As Bill and I were driving home, I realized I don't think Patrick packed a blanket - he had a matress cover, sheets, pillowcases, towels, but no blanket. When I talked to him this evening, my sympathy quickly disappeared. Seems it's so hot there, he is running his fan already! I got a skype message earlier that he'd already made some friends in his res. One from L.A., one from Oregon, one from Vancouver and another from interior B.C., although they are originally from Ireland.
So it looks like a road trip to Victoria is on hold for a bit longer. Bill has a couple of meeting over the weekend - work related. That works out just fine, as the basement is a disaster and I really need to get out into the garden. I think we are also going to adjust some of the patio stones. Hopefully there will be time to relax as next week is a busy one; working 4 days straight. Hmmm, wonder what Bill will be making for supper?
I forgot to mention, I made my first Christmas present purchase. Little ones are so easy to buy for. It's the bigger kids that make you think more.
The count down is on for the big birthday trip.. Vegas and Garth Brooks. whoooo hoooo.
Anyway, trying to finish up Patrick's school book, so I can put it away.

Day 1 of September

Day 1 of September and September 1 - hows that for being on the ball.

Q: Did you hear about the new sushi bar that caters exclusively to lawyers?

A: It's called "SOSUMI!"

Sometimes I just need myself to make me laugh!!!!

Speaking of sushi (and that was a great lead in), that's where we went for a family dinner last night. Now I forget the name, but it was in Dalhousie Mall. Who knew sushi could be so pretty. Now Bill, Ashley and Patrick all thought the sushi was great; I myself am not an eating of raw fish - and so all my found was cooked - but I did appreciate the presentation. And I certainly wasn't going to complain about where we went for dinner, considering trying to get the four of us together for a meal is tricky each time.

Who knew school started today? That's what happens when you have no kids attending k-12. But I found out with a start that indeed today was the day. I received a phone call late Wednesday night from a teacher at a school, asking if I could sub for Thursday, Friday. Without taking an extra breath, I said yes!!!!!! I can't believe I fell for flattery. I was thinking I had until tuesday to put on my Ed. Face. But today proved that I needed not only my Ed. face, but my Ed voice; my Ed. body and my Ed. energy. I was working with three grade 1's; but only one of them got my entire attention. Thank goodness there were a couple of teacher assistants in the classroom. They covered every one else. Tomorrow I must remember to eat my Wheaties.

Oh yes, the son went for another hike today. Thank you Mrs. Beresford for giving me your cell number had I wondered what was taking them so long. Patrick did remember to tell me where he was going this time; and he texted me when he got off the mountain. By the looked of his tired face and torn pants (in the bottom), it was quite a hike. Maybe next time he'll go to bed at a reasonable hour and not miss his alarm........

Anyway better get stuff washed up so he can finish packing..... Saturday is the day.

9th Day of August

Who invented fractions?

Henry the eighth!!!!!

Ok, am I the only one who thinks that is totally funny? I told that joke to the kids and nieces and nobody laughed. In fact both Patrick and Jane asked at different times - "How do you know it wasn't Henry the 5th." And Susan asked "What's so important about Henry the 8th?:" Of course you can guess my answer to that..... I'm Henery the 8th I am, Henery the 8th I am I am. I got married to the widow next door........well you know the rest.

So I don't think I have brought up the latest news on my Blog - or maybe I have and have just forgotten. Bill got fired from his job on August 17th. Let go - shown the door - reorganized right out of the company. As devestating as it sounds, I believe it might have been a blessing in disguise. He was tired, and worn out and needed a break. The sad part was that it came so close to his Dad's passing. Bill did make a comment while we were driving that night (he was fired), "I guess this is Dad's way of telling me to take it easy for awhile!" That is the most "spiritual" thing I have ever heard Bill say!"
This past Sunday we had a nice family dinner at Anne and Brian's. The food was fantastic. It was nice to see some old friends of Anne's that we haven't seen in awhile. The kids got in some nice visiting before Patrick and Jane head off to their respective Universities. Hard to believe that will be this coming weekend. I think Patrick is looking forward to it, but I would be less anxious if he would at least start to pack!
Now that Bill isn't working he's thinking we should make a trip out to Victoria and just hang out. I start work on tuesday, so it would have to be a short trip if I'm going. It's going to be a hectic week for me. Trying to help Patrick get organized and trying to get health items up to date for my Mom - new teeth - check; new stockings - still ongoing - in fact it has now become the "Stocking Saga!" Get her blue cross fixed up and Access and I am up to date on Mom stuff. It's hard to believe both kids are now adults. I'm looking forward to focusing on Bill, Mom and of course myself. Life is good.

Day 8 of August

JOKE:
A blonde, a brunette and a redhead are stranded on a desert island. they find a genie's lamp and agree they'll each get one wish.
The brunette and redhead both wish they were at home.
The blonde then says "Gee, I'm kinda lonely... I wish my friends were here!!!"

Note to self. Don't make a comment on Facebook about what you're doing without being prepared to blog about it. Makes some people curious - De.

My sister Robin had to take a course up in Edmonton. She wanted some company for the trip so she invited me along. We left Monday afternoon; We arrived in Edmonton at our hotel around 5:00ish. First thing we did when we got to our room was have a couple of coolers to cool off. Another note to self - "don't be so lazy and ask the front desk for a bottle opener". I was trying to do my "camping" opener trick. Doesn't work so well when there is nothing "worthless" to put the bottle cap against. Needless to say I have a very pronounced bruise on my left hand. I think I broke a blood vessle. But on a good note - Robin got the best laugh ever. So we finished icing my hand and headed down to the lounge for dinner. It was pretty empty but the food was pretty good. Then we headed back upstairs - thinking I was ready for a nap. But alas, a little tv (had to share the remote) and then some cards. Good thing I came prepared because my sister didn't bring a thing to do.
I was just finishing up America's Most Funniest Videos before 11:00 pm when I noticed Robin was already asleep. The eyes were closed and there was a quiet shush of breathing coming from her. (didn't want to call it snoring). So I turned off the TV, turned off the light and said a quiet good night. Well, Robin darn near scared the crap out of me when she said "good night." She said she wasn't sleeping..
Tuesday morning - someone had a course to attend, so their alarm went off at 6;30 am. Being the loveable sister that I am, I woke up to so Robin wouldn't have to try and be quiet. I told her about scaring me the previous night - seems she doesn't remember talking to me. Hmm. might have to psycho analysis that one. So Robin headed for her course - I grabbed a book and read for a little bit and the next thing I know I'm waking up at 10:00. Changed quickly and got in some treadmill; a 30 minutes massage; an hour nap and a relaxing shower. Late check out was 3:00 and Robin wasn't finished until 4:30 so I checked out and headed over the the downtown mall.
That was the day in a nut shell. But the best part was driving home and we started singing old songs from Carmangay days. We both had smiles on our face.

thanks for a great road trip sister. I had a blast.

Day 7 of august

What do JC Pennys and teenagers have in common?

PANTS 50% off...... ok that was tooo funny.

Luckily both my kids wear their pants where they are supposed to be worn.
Speaking of lucky kids. I had an "unrational mom moment last night. I wasn't being unrational, but I was certainly thinking unrational. No I'm not going to go into every single detail to show who was in the right and even if there was a right or wrong. But there certainly was a lesson to be learned from it all ----- communication.
So Thursday morning Patrick had plans to go for a hike with one of his friends. I've met this friend a few times and he is a very nice, friendly, responsible young man (one of his camping buddies) The friend has done over 10 hikes this summer and is getting quite experiences. So the night before Patrick talks to his dad about the hike, and informs me he is going with this friend and the hikes is about 5 or 6 hours. I'm ok with it. Come Thursday morning, I'm busy on the treadmill so I ask Patrick to text me when he leaves (cause he'll probably just yell by and I won't hear him) and to text me when he gets off the moutain once he has cell reception. So Thursday whiz's by.... Come 5:00 pm in the evening. I'm trying to do the math in my head as to when to expect to hear from the boy. I ask Bill what hike/mountain they went - he can't remember the name. So 6:00 pm arrives - I ask Bill if the 5 or 6 hours hike should be done but he informs me it is probably more like 6 or 7 hours. (why is this the only time guys under estimate the truth) So 7:00 pm arrives and I ask Bill if I should be worried yet; he replies probably not. Time to do a little detective work of my own. Now if I needed information of a Patrick activity, who does he share the most information with. That's what I thought - the girlfriend. So I facebook the girlfriend to see if she has heard from the hiker - Nope -- I ask her if she knows where he went - NOPE she only knows the friend he went with. Ok, well that wasn't much help. So now reasons are swirling in my head as to what could be causing the delay, and I'm trying to stay away from "dangerous" ones. Maybe Patrick lost his phone over a falls (His sister has done that before) So I need to call the friend with him. Takes me two differnet phone calls to get his number. Phone it - no answer - so they must still be out of service range. Hmmmm Now this lovely storm is blowing in; I can feel the panic setting in. Having no details I can't fathom what I would do.... Then around 7:45 pm the phone rings. It's Patrick - he said just got into cell range and they are on their way home. I thank him for phoning (through my tears of relief) and tell him maybe to text the girlfriend and let her know he's on his way home.
Well one grouchy door. Seems the girlfriend is angry with him for not telling me where he was. Now I'm not getting into their disagreement, but I do advise the son, I am him mom, I am allowed to worry, and I went to the best source for my information (the girlfriend). The moral of the story, maybe if you shared more everyday details with your mom, she wouldn't have to phone around to find her son. k, that's not the real moral, but we did establish both of us didn't do anything wrong (I still plan on being nosier in the future), but really, communcation can be a life saver.

Got more news, but will share it in a different blog.
Saturday - REGGAEFEST is coming up....

Day 6th of August

Obviously De and Alisa are enjoying my humor. Let's see if they have heard this one:

A new teacher was trying to make use of her psychology courses.
She started her class by saying, "Everyone who thinks you're stupid, stand up!"
After a few seconds, Little Johnny stood up.
The teacher said, "Do you think you're stupid, Little Johnny?"
"No, ma'am, but I hate to see you standing there all by yourself.!"

A busy, busy weekend. Saturday my niece Tracey came over and spent the afternoon with me. We had a great visit. Then Saturday night, I picked my girlfriend Janice up from the airport. She was coming home from San Fransico. We had planned to go out for supper, but her flight kept getting delayed, so by the time she got in, the plans had changed, and we ended up at the "Pig and Whistle!" It took everything in my power not to sing the theme song from that TV show, all night.
Anyhow,,, we met up with some soccer team mates of Janice's and I believe it was around 2:00 am when Ashley came and gave Janice and I a ride back to our place. I only had about 4 or 5 girly drinks all night, but better safe than sorry. So Janice slept on the couch. Oh, did I mention that Bill picked Patrick up at the airport Saturday night as well. He got cut from the soccer tryouts so headed home to do what he does best ----- I'm thinking.......
So Sunday, Ashley gave Janice and I a ride back to my car, and I proceeded to take Janice home. Along the way, plans changed again, and Janice and her soccer buddies wanted to ride the rafts down the river. I needed sleep; so I found a replacement for me - Bill. So we popped quickly into Janice's; dropped off her suitcases; got the raft and accessories and headed back to our place. Bill used his fancy air compressor and filled the rafts and they headed off; Janice, Bill, JB and Bonnie. I got some groceries and grabbed a much deserved nap.
This week is a busy one; 4 stores and Halloween and Thanksgiving stuff to get up. Could Christmas be much farther away.

Day 5 of August

Are those moon pants? Cause your A** is from outerspace! No, they are baseball pants - because my A** is way out of your league!!!! I heard that on the radio today and thought it was the best comeback line for the worst pick up line. Brought a big smile to my face..... That's what humour can do.
Also had a "ahhh haa" moment today. I have been patiently waiting for almost two days to hear from my son (I know he's ok, cause I see him on Skype and Facebook); but I'm assuming he's having an "ahhhhh" break from parental control. So I'm waiting and waiting. In the meantime, Ashley didn't have to work until 1:00 this afternoon, so she asked me if I would like to go out for lunch. I told her I couldn't cause I had to go into work (technically I could go in any time I wanted, but had pre planned my day). I said if she just needed me to pay, I'd give her some money.....and then a light bulb went off. My kids do want to spend time with me, but it's when they want to. So I quickly (actually she was still begging me -thank goodness) changed my mind and we ended up at "Dennys" (her choice not mine) and had a late breakfast and a wonderful visit. So sending positive vibes to my son, that he'll call me soon. At least he is keeping everyone updated on Facebook.
So a few exciting things coming up. Reggaefest is happening on August 20th. Janice, Bill and I are volunteering again. Janice and I are in the Green Room with the bands again, and Bill will be pouring the beer. Bill promised to get a little more Reggae this year, instead of just standing there.
I better finish tackling the laundry pile. I've left it for three days, and somehow, even without Patrick, it has multiplied.

Day 4 of August

First - I want to thank everyone for their kind words on the passing of my Father-in-law. I have been a very lucky lady to have chosed to be part of this family and to have had great-in-laws.
Today was a draining day for me. I felt like I could sleep for a week. Thank goodness I had a doctor's appointment this morning, or I probably wouldn't have left the house. We held Dad's funeral yesterday. It was a lovely service, with very few glitches. I got through the Eulogy; in fact I really made it through the service thinking of wonderful memories of Dad Wee. It is comforting to know he and Mom Wee are together again, and are looking out for their grandchildren. I didn't realize how hard it would hit Ashley - but except for a very good friend, and a another friend's mother, she has never really been to a funeral. She was a trooper coming up to be part of a poem that the grandchildren read.
After the service, we went back to Anne and Brian's home and had a chance to visit with lots of family and friends. I feel very blessed to belong to such a great family. They tell it like it is; what you see if what you get.
Around 4:00 Patrick and I left the gathering so he could grab his stuff from home and head to the airport. He caught his flight to Victoria. I was a little more emotional than I thought I would be; but once I heard from him last night; and that he had made it; things were good. Hmm; who is going to get the mail; who is going to change the poop boxes; who is going to listen to my "ranting". Thank goodness for Skype. Although, I tried skyping him last night; and he sent me a text saying he was busy skyping with his girlfriend; guess I'm second fiddle now.
As I mentioned I had a doctor's appointment today to get my annual prescription refilled. I have a new doctor now as Dr. Yee left his family practice last year. My new doctor is great. She listened to what I had to say; and whether she agreed with my philosophy of why I don't do check-ups; she accepted it. Although she did say it was in her job description to ask me every year. She is moving to Crowfoot as well, so it will be closer (when I see her next year).
Stopped in at Safeways to pick up some food for supper. We may have a few extra potoatoes left over as I totally forgot there would be no Patrick for supper. (his favorite) Just waiting for Bill to get home from work so I can run into work for a bit.
Tomorrow is Mom day time so I better get done what I need to get done.

3rd Day of August

Well this is certainly one post I'm not excited about posting. We lost a wonderful man this morning. Bill's Dad passed away around 3:00 a.m. Friday morning. Thursday morning, Dad went in for scheduled surgery for an aneurysm that needed to be fixed before it became fatal. The surgery went well, a little longer than anticipated; then they realized Dad had no circulation in one of his legs so they took him back into surgery. Again, he made it through the surgery, but the doctors were concerced about Dad's heart (he had a heart attack many years ago). His heart was only working at half capacity. Around 1;30 this morning, Dad's heart stopped working; they performed chest compresions for about an hour, but could not get his heart working again. We got to the hospital just after Dad has passed. He head never really regained consciousness since the surgery. He did open his eyes once during the afternoon when Anne was visiting.
Dad was a very special man.... I've known him longer than I knew I own Dad. It's been a very sad day, but we've had a few smiles during our reminicing. If you are a betting person, I'd be willing to bet, he's already found a new race track.
Details should be in the paper on Saturday.
Later - and hug someone you love today.

Day 2 of August

Ooops, my bad. Sent the son to his 8:40 dentist appointment - which I didn't realize was actually 9:40..... I have it written down correctly - just verablized wrong. His reaction - he's going to take his own messages now....yeah like that will happen - he doesn't even pick up the house phone anymore unless it's his girlfriend.
Sending off positive energy to my father-in-law today. He just went in for surgery for an aneurysm in his stomach. It's been there for a long long time, but has just started growing.
Bill sent out an email to Ashley this morning that she left her house keys in his gym bag. Not sure how they got in there, but she must be having the same type of day as me.
Yesterday, Patrick set me up on Skype. Now I just have to find some friends and family that also have Skype (De and Alisa) Maybe Skype could replace the BLOG. I know Shaunan has Skype, but she is not fond of computers..... I must remind myself to look in the mirror when I wake up in the morning, before turning on Skype - don't want to scare people away.
Today was supposed to be a very productive day, but as you can see, I am writing my blog at 9:00 am in the morning. Procrastinating from doing my treadmill and laundry. Although the laundry is being delayed so I can't support the energy crisis in Dallas.
Well, I better at least go and get out of the pj's. Might be a good day to work in the front garden.
Enjoy the great day today.

Day 1 of August

Please don't tell me the summer is half over.... We are having the most beautiful weather. I could live like this for the entire year. Hats off to my smart son. He and Ashley cleaned the hot tub on Saturday. Then Patrick refilled it. But in his youthful wisdom, and knowing that Sunday was supposed to be another hot day, he did not put the temperature too high. Just the right temperature for a waterballoon fight in the back yard. Patrick and his cousin and friends spent the afternoon engaged in the funniest water fight I've ever watched. Late in the afternoon, Robin, Alisa and Miss Caylee came over to take a quick dip in the pool too. We ordered pizza and ate on the deck. Couldn't have asked for a nicer evening. If you ever need a smile, this was a good group of people to have around. (despite the teenagers using up all my towels).
Monday was a holiday for some. I found myself sleeping in - after I got up and had breakfast. Faithfully did my treadmill again. These new cordless speakers make working out so much easier. After working out, Bill and I finished off re sanding (just adding sand and water) to the patio stones. They look brand new. After a 3 1/2 hour nap (I must be finally catching up on much needed sleep) I headed off to work to clean up a couple of stores. Now it's back home to Maya and an empty house (Bill's golfing, Patrick's at the girlfriends and Ashley is working). No better time for a cooler than now.
Also got a todo item done. Sent an email off to the "Finish" dishwasher people. I tried their new product - the Finish QuantuMatic. It is the neasted concept. You put this contraption in your dishwasher - it's good for 12 washes, and then you add new inserts. (I had a coupon for a free trial offer) see De, couponing has been around for ages... but I found the dishes didn't seem to come out as clean as when I just used the tabs. So I thought it was my "clean" duty to inform them of their defective product. I did mention that I liked the concept, and when they had perfected it, give me a call (and a free one)
Anyway, off to finish off my 8 loads of laundry....

Day 5 of July

Loving this Calgary weather. Sitting outside on the deck - enjoying a nice glass of white wine; deck umbrella up; golfers waving as they go by........
Well I was waiting with baited breath for my "followers" to beg me to go on. Guess it's either too hot in Dallas or someone else has gone visiting to Red Deer......
So to continue on.... now I am in Halifax (was). The train station is right down town. So I take a look at my map, and realize I'm not too far from my hotel. Eight blocks, with two bags and a purse is far. Once I got past the dodgy part of downtown, the walk was nice. The hotel shower was even nicer. Because I saved money on not taking a taxi, I treated myself to room service. Watched a little tv, and fell asleep no problem with out any train rocking. That was a quick Friday night. Saturday afternoon, Bill arrived. We spent saturday and sunday cruising down the board walk. There was so much atmosphere and sights to see. The best part was watching people having parties on their boats; docked next to the restaraunt. I think I could get used to summers on the ocean. Sunday afternoon we visited the local farmers market on the dock. It was only partially open, but nice to see anyways. Then we took a quick picture of the lime green "viper" car parked on the street and we headed out of Halifax. Our first stop was Peggy's Cove. Amazing sight. These rocks just go on for ever; if if weren't for the tons of people, it would be a very serene spot. Did some walking around on the rocks; then we headed for Lunenberg. This is a small town along the coast. I had got suggestions from friends to spend some time there. I'm glad we did. We spent two nights there. I had my fresh lobster there; we visiting the Fisheries Museum (learned way too much information about lobsters). We also drove around to see the "blue rocks"; which technically I thought were more on the green side. Didn't stay too long there as it was very deserted and Bill said it reminded him of a zombie movie where the cannibals come out to get us. Our motel was right next to an 18 hole golf course. We were told that technically it was only nine, but you could do it twice. I guess we live on a 36 hole golf course..... Our few of the Harbor and Luneberg was fantastic. The owners of the motel were so friendly. The register lady didn't even take our credit card or license number when we signed in. She said to just stop in on our way out, and come try her fresh baked blueberry muffins. It was the Top Mast Motel. So Tuesday morning we left Luneberg for home. We made a tourist stop at the Ovens. They are these caves on the shore that look like - you guessed - ovens. We did a hike there and then instead of continuing along the coast, we cust across a very scenic (at least that's what the sign said) route to make our way back to Halifax/airport. We stopped in another town; actually it was a subburb of Halifax. Can't remember the name, but we checked into the hotel there. On Wednesday morning after breakfast, we headed to the airport. First we made a couple of more touristy stops. (using up time) Our flight wasn't until 3:00 pm. Around 12:30 we returned the car; and headed to have some lunch. - more seafood for me. You can probably guess what comes next.....graval and ativan and before we knew it we were back in Calgary. Patrick picke us up at the airport. Bill is working on pictures so once they are done, I'll get them out as well.
So I'm going back out side to finish my wine.

Day 4 of July

Well I thought I had better update the details of my recent trip. Had hoped to do it sooner, but who knew that when I got home everyone would need me.......children; mother; husband; dog; work..........Side note spend last Monday picking up Patrick in Banff (where he's working); returning to Calgary to take him to his soccer game in the SW; grabbing some food for him: taking his back to Banff where he is still working; and returning home to Calgary; thought I had to do the same thing on Wednesday; but he caught a ride into Calgary and back with another soccer player;...................

So met some interesting people on the train. Such a variety; males, females, old, young, straight gay, married, single, families, couples, widowers, newlyweds, single mom's; and me.... someone just trying to get away for some peace and quiet. Like me, taking the train was a new experience for many people, but alot were also seasoned travellers. They were old hands on which sitting to chose for meals; how long the stop overs were for a smoke break; who to call if you couldn't get your bed set up by yourself; when to take a sip of your hot tea whilst the train was moving. I had the opportunity to sit with one gentleman a few different times during meals. We started out as strangers, but by the end of the trip, people thought we were married. "Guest #1" works as a grieve counsler at a sicks kids hospital in Canada. Guest #1 is an openly gay man in a relationship. Guest #1 could be one of my new friends. We got along so well. We were jabbing and teasing all the time. At our second "date" there was a couple at our table that asked if we were married. I turned to Guest #1 and asked if that would hurt his reputation or mine!. Then at another meal sitting, I was telling a gentleman about Bill, my husband at home, and Guest #1 turned to me and said "You mean your other husband." Even when we weren't sitting at the same table, but near, the bantering continued. Then there was guest #2, who tugged at my heart strings. He was an elderly gentleman whose wife had died a month ago, and he had gone to visit friends in Winnipeg and was returning home to Toronto. And finally there was a couple from Calgary; originally from Houston I think. But they have lived in Calgary for over 35 years and call Calgary their home. He's retired and his wife was a retired teacher. She appeared to me to either have suffered a stroke or a muscle debilitating ailment; anyway, the husband was so good at catering to her. There was one other lady I met when we first got on the train; she had the room right across the hall from me (a two foot hall); when we first boarded the train, the porter showed us a demonstration of how to lower our beds and how to access stuff. When the porter left, we talked a little bit; people kept walking through the hall way on the way to their rooms and they would say good night. I started to get a vision of the Waltons; good night John Boy; Mary Ellen; Elizabeth. My neighbor had the same thought. Funny thing was, we were the closest in proximity and I don't believe I seen her on the entire train ride. Guess she didn't think the Walton analogy was that funny, and might have been avoiding me the entire time. Oh wait, wait,,,, there was one more couple. The newlyweds.. Yes Cowboy Joe and his new bride. Now I don't have their true story, but here is the one I imagined, just by observation. This was a second marriage for both (they weren't young chickens) He probably has more suitcases than her (two leather coats - brown, black, cobra cowbow boots; lots of hair product - that's all him; her baseball cap, oversized sweatshirt, sandles) They haven't know each other very long -(he was explaining that a colored bird flying around must be a hawk - and she was impressed) Now had I not overhear him telling everyone at the train station that they were newlyweds, I would have guessed that as well. So at the train station I kept saying, I hope they are on a different train; nope, they were right next to me; they also happen to be at every dinner seating I was at. In fact I think we sat at the same table one time. The "head waiter" brought him his drink, and his comment was "I don't care what the boss says, you're pretty good." Not original, but a little funny - the first time, but after the third time, not so funny, and finally the "head waiter" said, "I am the boss!" K, I better stop, because the remaining blog could just be about Cowboy Joe; doesn't matter where I went, he was there with his cobra boots - he told everyone that, I didn't guess - I thought they were alligator......
So we had a 3 1/2 hour stop over in Winnipeg. I should have had that on my 50 list, because I have never been to Winnipeg either; didn't really have a desire though. Although I didn't get to see too much of the inside of the Winnipeg train station, the outside was lovely. There was an inside/outside market a short walk away; and a lot of old trains set up and being used as stores. Quite unique. I headed back early to our train; not that I thought I would miss it, but you had to get on before a certain time, or wait and get on when the new arrivals got on closer to departure.
So come thursday morning, we had arrived in Toronto; That train station was big, but not exciting. I thought the train ride from Toronto to Montreal was only three hours, but I then realized it was five. I lined up early so I could get a good seat; The line got very long; I got on the train and found a comfortable seat; it was set up similar to the C-train-two facing forward, and you faced two seats facing the other way - hope that's not too confusing. And then I did a stupid Stacey thing; I was sitting on the inside, facing a petite lady, and I was facing the direction the train was travelling ( as opposed to going backwards) This couple gets on the train, they want to sit side by side - you could tell - and I offered to move so they could sit together. Sometimes I am just an idiot. Now I was on the outside; facing the wrong way; and these two tall, long legged people are taking up the entire leg space. I spent five (not three) travelling to Montreal with my knapsack on my lap, my legs squished up, and no food. Thank goodness for gravol and ativan.
Now we arrive in Montreal. I'm not going to make the same mistake twice. Luckily the Montreal train station is large and very much like the Toronto, or Vancouver, or (Dallas) airport. Lots of stores etc. The trek from Montreal to Halifax is 24 hours. if I had to do it again, I would get a seat with a berth bed. You don't need an entire room, but being able to shut a curtain or lay up on a bed would be nice. But I figured for 24 hours I could handle just sitting. I had visions of having to sit cramped like I did from toronto to Montreal, but this train had much more comfortable and spacious sitting. I actually at a one seater, facing another one seater, with a table in between. Almost like a set up in a trailer. And, there was no one sitting across from me, so I got to stretch out at night.
Not a lot of interesting people on this trip. Grandparents with their two grandchildren that were coming for a visit. A single mom with an 8 year old and a two year old. He did quite well considering he couldn't run around and had to sit alot. It took everything in my power not to get up and offer to watch the little guy so Mom could take a break - But I kept saying to myself, Stacey this is your holiday, you are allowed to be selfish this one time...... There was also the Mom, travelling to meet her husband; she had the two daughters who unlike myself at that age, were very bold. They weren't misbehaving or anything, just busy and bold.
So it's Friday, July 15th, around 3:00ish and we arrive in Halifax. Ahh the smell of ocean air.
And so the saga shall contine - when you might ask, when Alisa and De have entertained me enough on Facebook. (thanks to everyone else for being so patient)
Luv Me

Day 3 of July

Well I thought I better get a blog up here before I start getting those "little" hints.
Well I can now cross off another item on my 50 list - "Visit the Canada East Coast". And what a visit it was.

Today I am just going to talk about my train journey..... Actually one step before that was the Greyhound journey from Calgary to Edmonton. I didn't realize I had actually signed up for the milk run, but we did a short stop over in Olds and Wetaskawin. At the Calgary bus station, I met two young men; about the same age; but totally opposite in every other way. The first young man was a recent University graduate from ------ Nova Scotia. He had flown out to Alberta, all by himself, and was on his way to Jasper to go climbing. This was his reward for finishing school, and to give him time to think on what and where he would do his future schooling. He was a civil engineer and wanted to pursue a carreer in robotics. The second gentleman, was from Okotoks (sort of); had just got kicked out of his mothers home, because he informed his Dad that his mother was having an affair; he was off to Wetaskiwin to stay with his girlfriend. Two interesting young men - both with a tough journey.
So I'm on the wonderful Greyhound, and I sit next to a young girl; maybe 21 or 22ish. Poor thing. She had headphones in, and I must have interrupted her several different times. She finally just put the once head phone in. Thankfully I remembered to apologize and tried not to start any more conversations with her.
Once in Edmonton, I grabbed a cab and headed to the train station. I was a little early, but that gave me enough time to ask alot of questions and get some writing and reading done.
We finally boarded our train around 11:45 pm. The porter showed me how to make out the bed and as soon as she left; I was changed and in my bed. I don't think I slept much the first night, because I was so excited. I wanted to stay awake until the train left the station. And even then it seemed to take forever to get out of the station. I slept with my curtain open so I could watch the "darkness". I missed most of it.
I won't go into every nook and detail of the trip. And in this blog I'll just talk about the actual train ride itself. I ate my first breakfast in the dining car; but because breakfast is not a big meal for me, I ate the rest of the breakfasts in the dome car, with a juice and muffin and taking in the few from up high. Dinning car was two cars ahead of mine. For the first couple of days there were two sittings for lunch and supper, but after Winnipeg, there was three sittings. That must mean they picked up many more people in Winnipeg. You had to chose which sitting you wanted, and you usually sat with different people each time. The meals were amazing; and just the right amount, so you had room for dessert. There was a games room, but it was closer to the front of the train and i never did venture that far. My room had a bed, chair, toilet, sink and a little storage space up top. There were common showers on each of the trains; but I didn't take advantage of those either - just a quick wash up in the room. (hopefully trees can't talk).
That was the details up to Toronto. For those that think this would be wonderful to do - it would and there is currently a great sale on. For a two bed sleeping car from Edmonton to Toronto, they have a couple of cars left at around $350.00.
Next Blog I'll talk about the people on my train to Toronto.

Day 2 of July

Here's a little riddle,
With a snazzy little rhyme.
It's meant to hold you over
for a short amount of time.

I'm off to find adventure
Or maybe to relax.
You won't know where I'm heading
Cause I won't leave any TRACKS.

I'll have a few stop overs
though I'm not sure where they are.
But my mode of transportation
comes complete with walk up bar.

I'll see some towns, some trees and lakes
When it's dark and when it's light
Whereever I am going,
could take a long long flight!!!!!

Unlike the Duke and Duchess
This great country I won't leave
So across the plains and around the lakes
Is how I'll have to weave.

When I get where I'm going
Will take me 5 short days
But I'm told I will enjoy it
In fact, I'll be amazed.

So ponder this and think of me
When the blogs are way past due
I'll fill you in when I get back
With my holiday reviews.

Day 1 of July

Belated Happy Canada Day and Early Happy 4th of July to all my American friends.

So, where to start.....

Lets start with Patrick; and I have his permission to tell this story. I really should find my book of Patrickism's to keep adding to. So last night Patrick had to work; he gets home around 2:30ish and comes rushing into the house; seems he had his first run in with the police. It happened on his way to work, and by his anxiousness, he must have been excited to tell me all night. He was driving away from our house; turned left at the drive and headed down the hill. Within 10 seconds he was pulled over by the police for doing "70" in the 50 zone. The officer asked him if this was his usual "warp speed." Patrick said he did a lot of no sir; yes sirs; and he luckily was let go with a warning. But the officer told him if he seen that drivers license again, he wouldn't let him off with a warning. I didn't have my first speeding violation (and that was even a picture one) until at least 18 years after I had my drivers licence - not less than a year!!!

Today I was able to cross off another item on my 50 list. With Robin's assistance and Mom's accompaniment; we drove to Okotoks to locate our old house. Now technically this is not my first house; my first house was in Midnapore and as of now it is buried under some strip mall I believe. Plus I was only a baby so I don't remember any of it. The house in Okotoks is my real first memory of a house. Thank goodness Robin was there, because with Moms and my memory put together, we'd still be in Okotoks searching. Robin knew exactly where to turn off the highway. Our starting point was the old high school - which after 50 years is still standing, but of course is not longer the high school. We thought we had found it right away; but it didn't look the same; there must have been renovations done. A little disappointing so I really didn't want a picture. So we driver down the hill and around and back up the hill on a different road and realized the old high school was a different building yet. And low and behold we found our street (I don't think it had a name 50 years ago) And then doing the counting from the corner we found the house and yeah - there was little outside renovations done to it. I was very impressed with my sister's recollection of houses belonging to different neighbours and friends; for crying out loud, she even remembered the name of our landlord. I better start drinking what she's drinking. So I have attached a picture of our house at 10 Knight Street as of July 3, 2011 and a picture of the same house with Robin and I from October 1963.

My 50 list is getting smaller and smaller.

6th Day of June

Sorry Alisa, didn't mean to extend Father's Day any longer than Mother's Day!!! I'm not sure if today is a good day to be expressing myself in my blog or not..... I am house bound for a few days. The son and his friends left Monday for their year end camping trip. It took everything in my power not to help them organize the two vehicles. There are six of them camping (sorry Andrew couldn't make it - he was my hope for not worrying too much - but probably not a good idea to send another young male with a broken collar bone, out to rescue 6 other young males) Needless to say, one of the vehicles was mine and another boy was taking his truck. For six guys, they had 5 coolers, 4 of which were empty when they left. I finally had to go into the house while they finished packing. My sister made a very good point, and I'll try to phrase it the same way she did. "What a good learning experience for these teens. Usually going on a holiday is a breeze because mom and/or dad do all the planning and preparation. They will actually (hopefully sooner than later) figure out, it's not that easy and having a good time, comes with a little work and organization. Maybe even throw in a little appreciation for what parents do before a holiday happens."
So I have spent the last two days cleaning, decluttering and organizing this house. I started upstairs yesterday; and today was the basement. I even made it into Patrick's room. Really, how many t-shirts is too many. 10, 20, 30, 40, 50.. I stopped counting and started recycling. Really, do we need to keep every orange blizzard soccer shirt that we have received for the last 8 seaons? I'm willing to bet, he won't even realize anything is missing. And another question - his exact comment to me, was don't throw out any school papers yet. He may need them. Does that include the papers in a back from from Grade 10 sitting in his corner? And what about all the papers under his bed, that were never used for studying anyways? Again, I don't think he'll even realize anything is missing.
Onto the third thing that is currently bugging me. I can't go into much detail, because of obvious reasons, but I'm having a difficult time in deciding if I want to continue having a relationship with a certain individual. I am finding that I cannot be myself; I can't joke (for fear of offending); I can't be generous; (for their fear of making it a competition); and I can't be open about my concern (because this person is clueless that they are like this) K, that really doesn't help; guess I'll have to make another phone call to get that one off my chest.
Other than that last "situation"; life is good. No, life is great. I have more energy than I have had in a long time. I am at a great place; (the weather helps).
Just picked up the mail, so I guess I better get some paper work up to date.
Have a great evening; I'm planning on it!
