Blog 5 of December

I can't believe it has been a week since we were in Banff at Bill's company Christmas party.  Here it is, Saturday, December 21st.  The past week has been a busy, but fun week.  I am finished pre-school(s) until the New Year.  A couple more visits to card stores on Monday and Tuesday, and then a break from them until the New Year.
It has been a week filled with Christmas parties, shopping, and a few "celebrity" interactions.  On three different occasions and three different days, I have ran into and shared a short conversation with the following:

Mr. Preston Manning.

And Mr. Henry Burris:

And Mr. Brett Wilson

I helped one gentleman cards for his family; I critiqued another one on his gingerbread house; and I bought a Tai Chi Latte for another.   All three gentleman were gracious and very approachable.

I also had another surprise meeting today.  I was working and waiting for my Tai Chi Latte order, when I recognized the lady next to me.  I couldn't remember her name, but I remembered her son.  He used to tumble with Ashley.  Thankfully my filter buttons were turned off and I approached her and asked her if she had a son named Jamie - and yes she did.  What a small world.  And that world seems like ages ago; maybe 10 or 11 years ago. Wow.

Friday night was the annual Sura Christmas party.  Bill is fighting the flu, so Patrick and I represented the family.  It's always a fun night, and especially when a drunk Santa makes an appearance.  We are very blessed to have such good friends in our life.

Tomorrow is straighten up day.  Put away wrapping paper, finish laundry and  deliver gifts.  I can't believe  I'm ready for Christmas, and two days early.

If I don't blog before the 25th. Merry Christmas everyone!  And Happy New Year.

Blog 4 of December

15th of December; half way through the month and 10 days until Christmas.
I think I am ready for Christmas.  The son arrived home on the 12th and while I was at work on the Friday, he put up the Christmas tree and decorated the house.  He did a great job.
Saturday night was Bill's company Christmas party.  It was once again held at the Banff Springs Hotel.  And for the third time (in staying there), our room was not ready when we arrived.  I was really annoyed and wanted to be really pissed, but the young lady who was checking us in, was so kind and apologetic.  They put us in a "day room" until our "suite" was ready.  The idea being we could get ready for the Christmas party with plenty of time to spare.  After about an hour, our "suite" was ready and what a suite it was.  It was on the 9th floor and the name on the door was W.W. Stinson Suite.

There was even a doorbell.  I didn't take a lot of pictures of the inside of the room because pictures wouldn't have done the room justice.  But if you're curious, some other guest did take video and post it on You Tube and it shows the room.  Just type in W.W. Stinson room Banff Springs Hotel.
I did however take some pictures of the "million" door view from different  rooms in the suite.
You can also see what these same views look like without the snow, in that You Tube Video.  So despite the inconvenience, the room was so worth the wait.
The actual Christmas party was also a success this year.  Last year, Bill ended up on the phone and in meetings for most of the evening, putting out fires (company fires)  This year, was much more enjoyable.  The food was good, the band was great and the cranberry and vodka's tasted better and better.  I left the party around 1:00 a.m. and I Bill partied on with his co-workers until about 2:30.  Needless to say 8:00 a.m. Sunday morning came a little too early.  Bill headed to the gym (surprise) and I took my time getting ready for the company brunch.
This week is going to be a busy one.  It's the last week of pre-school work; busy card work (restocking Christmas stuff) and the daughter returns home from her quick trip to Geneva.  I can't wait to hear the stories and see the pictures (that's what I asked for)
Off to bed to catch up on some much needed sleep.

Blog 3 of December

Ahhh, I can feel the warm weather already.  The temperature warmed up considerably today.  We got to a high of - 17 c.

Really, although it feels somewhat colder with a windchill.  But considering Friday's temperature was 7 degree's colder, as you can see from my car.  The -28 was when I went to work at 8:30 am to my pre-school job and the second picture of - 24 is when I went to my card job at 11:30 a.m. And from what I remember it didn't get much warmer that that.
I spent Saturday catching up on paper work during the day.  Bill and I went on a date night for dinner and than watched a movie at home.  If you haven't seen Burlesque with Cher, and Christina Agruillara, you should watch it.  I love the sound track.
Today I went to work in the morning and then spent the afternoon making wontons.  Ashley and Ethan ate the last batch, so I thought I better fill up the freezer once again.  The son will be home is a few days, and the fridge and freezer are pretty empty.
I also started cleaning out my closet.  I came across to items that I have never worn.  The first is a dress that belonged to my mom.

Mom received this dress from a neighbor when we lived in Okotoks; so that had to be at least 50 some odd years ago.  Mom never wore the dress (she said it wasn't her style)  So she gave the dress to her Mom, Grandma Fraser.  Some how the dress got back to mom and she in turn gave it to me a long time ago, before I was married in fact.  I have always loved this dress, but it has a tear in the skirt and the material is so fragile.  I don't want to part with it, but I'm not sure what to do with it.
Another item is a skirt that my same grandmother gave me.

Again, it was hers and as you can tell by the tiny waist (the size of the pant hanger), I don't think it would fit.  It holds sentimental value and it is in great condition.  What to do with it.  I spoke to Mom on the phone and she suggested I give the dress and skirt to a group of actors.  Hmm.  I'll have to think about that one - I thought for sure she would have more sentimental attachment to these items than me.  It's funny what's important to one person and not to another.
So I'm ready for the work week.  It's going to be a busy one.  Christmas is coming, if you were curious.  Got to get the cards finished, presents ordered (on-line shopping) and parcels mailed.
Stay warm.

Blog 2 of December

My goodness it is darn cold here.  It's not very often we get the deep freezes here, without a Chinook that follows shortly afterwards.  But really, if that is all I have to complain about, it is safe to say, my life is pretty good.
The past week has been filled with many events that evoked many emotions.  This past weekend the entertainment world lost a young actor, Paul Walker.  Now I am not a big fan of the "Fast and Furious" movies, but I had seen this actor on many talk shows and his "personality" was one of those that came across as a humble,  charitable, likable nice guy.  It's never easy to hear about people who have lost their live at a young age and in an avoidable accident.  Today the world also lost a hero, Mr. Nelson Mandela.  I can honestly say, he was a person that actually opened my eyes to the inequalities in this world.  I'm sure there are two souls who have time to ponder their "mission" before returning back to this earth.
This past Saturday, I finally picked-up the quilt that I had made for Ashley for her birthday/Christmas present.

The lady who made this quilt did a wonderful job.  Last May, I basically gave her all of Ashley's ribbons that she had won during her equestrian days.  I had no vision or idea of what I wanted.  She took the ribbons, removed all the flowerettes from them and this is the end product.  There are eight pictures that I printed out from my computer onto "quilting paper" and she incorporated them into the quilt.   Now I'm thinking I might look into getting a quilt made for Patrick using all of his soccer jerseys.  Although something tells me he won't be quite as receptive in having his jerseys cut up.  Hmmm. will have to think that one through a little bit.
Speaking of the son, he will be home a week today.  He called tonight and he has four exams coming up in the 6 days.
As for the daughter, she leaves next week for Geneva - yes Geneva, Switzerland.  Only for 6 days too.  There are a few people from the office heading there to watch a horse show. Who knew a job as a personal assistant could be so rewarding and beneficial.
I have finally finished the Christmas cards and wrapping presents ----- for my Mom.  Now to get onto my own.
Stay warm and I'm off to have a Chai Tea Latte.

Blog 1 of December

It has been a very busy weekend. And to top it off, there are only 24 Days until Christmas - yes 24 days.
Saturday night was a small get together to celebrate a girlfriends birthday.  Happy Birthday Rosie.  Hats off to the cooks, for the great feast.  The food was delicious.

Today is Bill's birthday, and he is officially older than me again.  (there is a two month overlap.)
His day started off a little slow.  He didn't leave the gym until 7:30 (that's late for him)  and then just as I am getting ready to hop in the shower, he returns home....seems he got to the gym and forgot his gym stuff.  Age... it can come back to bite you in the butt.
Had another small get together for Dim sum at our house with Bill's family.  After all the food this weekend, I don't think I could eat another bite.
This is a picture of Bill when he was just a year old.  I can't believe how much he looks like Ashley (when she was a baby).

Then this is the boy I fell in love with in High School.  I just loved his long hair.  And, he looked even better in a football uniform.  That was 34 years ago.

At 53, I think Bill as aged gracefully.  Hairs a little shorter (ok a lot shorter, but he still has hair)

After Dim sum, we had a surprise visit from Bill's Tequila buddy and his wife.  I only got a short visit in as I had promised Ashley and Ethan that I'd take them to Costco (not one of my best decisions for a Sunday)  The parking lot was packed, but the lines went pretty fast.
A few more pit stops and I was home by 4:30.  So much for a relaxing Sunday.  I can't believe Monday is almost here.  The weather forecast is calling for a blizzard tomorrow.  I might start my countdown for Hawaii.

Enjoy the week.

Blog 4 of November

It's Sunday and the weather has warmed up considerably from the past week.  It was a crazy, busy past week.  Mostly work related.  Between the playschools, home visits, and card work, the dust bunnies are starting to hang out in my house again.
Bill and I visited the Spruce Meadows Christmas market yesterday.  It was such a warm day, and the atmosphere was as Christmasy as it could get.  And being that it was Spruce Meadows, Santa's reindeer were also there.  It was cute to see the kids getting their pictures taken with the reindeer.   Ashley was working at the Market (ticket taker) so we had a quick visit but couldn't bother her for too long as the line up for continuous to get in.  We left the Market at 5:00 and people were still arriving as we left.
After the Market, Bill and I went out for dinner at the Cattle Baron.  I was craving me some filet mignon and I wasn't disappointed.  It's been a long time since I had a nice steak.
Ashley came over this morning for a short visit.  (she was in the neighborhood).  After she left, I headed to work on my cards and then over to Market Mall to pick up a couple of things.  I'm proud to say I have finished Christmas shopping........for my mom.  I also picked up a few items so I can say I have officially started my Christmas shopping.    I also checked in at a couple of jewelry stores.  A couple of weeks ago, my engagement ring broke.  The gold was getting thin (it is over 30 years old) and the back finally broke.  I am going to take my ring and band and a couple of small pieces and have the gold melted and a new ring made.  I just need to find a design I am really happy with.
Well, the Grey Cup is on the TV, Bill is in his office and Maya is snoring at my feet in my office.  The house is sure a lot quieter now.  What better time than to get my PJ's on and enjoy a nice cup of tea (or a different beverage of choice)
  Goodbye Sunday, hello Monday.

Blog 3 of November

It is Monday, November 11th, 2013.  Hope you took the time to remember.

I actually had the day of today, and made a conscious choice to stick around home and watch some of the live coverage of Remembrance Day ceremonies.

I also managed to get caught up on on my paperwork; personal and work related.  I now have 4 children I work with.  They are all different personalities, but a lot of fun to be around.
I still have a few more errands to run before my visit with Mom tomorrow.  She needed a few grocery items, wool, frames, some Christmas gifts picked up, a scrap book and the list continues to grow.  Hopefully I haven't forgot anything when I get there tomorrow.

I have also started to think about my Christmas letter this year.  I consulted my friend Google to get some ideas.  I think I have found an idea that is too cute.

I was also lucky enough to have a couple of friends come for a visit Friday night and give me some painting advise.  Now that Ashley has moved out, her room can be restored back to it's original state.  (gone will be the red and black walls)  I started sanding today (lots of nail holes).  This is going to me my "go to" project and hopefully I won't lose interest before it's half way done.

Also went out for drinks and wings with these same ladies (and other's) on Friday night.  Bill and Ashley had gone to the KISS concert.  I didn't stay too long as I was looking forward to a quiet evening, relaxed in my PJ's and catching up on some PVR shows, and drinking some nice hot tea.

This coming week is going to be a busy one.
Curious as to what Mother Nature is going to throw at us.

Blog 2 of November

I'm still having troubles with this blog signing in.  I know it has something to do with Google, and Chrome and, probably other stuff.   Here's hoping I don't mess it up.

Well I changed my Mom visiting day from Wednesday to Tuesday.  Had a nice visit with Mom.  She was still on cloud 9 from her birthday dinner.  Plus she has had 20 new orders for scarves.  She "talks" like it's going to be a pain, but I notice she is making at least 1 scarf a day now.  I like that she has something she enjoys and keeps her busy.  Wednesday was her actual 90th birthday.  It would have also been my Dad's 95th birthday.  It still boggles me that they both shared the same birthday, only 5 years apart.
Yesterday after work, Ashley and I did a trip to Ikea.  I can count on one hand the number of times I have been to Ikea in the last 20 years.   I can also count on one hand the number of times Ashley and I have been shopping together in the last 5 years.  So this was an added bonus, and it was a great outing.  I know it has only been a few days since she moved out, but I notice a difference in both of us already.
Tuesday night I also got a call, out of the blue, from the son.  That doesn't happen very often, unless he is living in the house and needs something.  The planets must be in alignment.
Friday Bill and Ashley are off to KISS.  I declined the offer.  Seen them, enjoyed them, but not a big enough fan that another time is needed.  So I guess Friday night is might night to unwind and relax.  Yeah, because it has been a hectic week.
Off to an early meeting.

Blog 1 of November

Hmmm. It's the 3rd of November and I am having difficulty with this blog account. Not sure what planets are out of sync, or if have messed something up in the system. Hopefully this will work.
It has been a busy week. The new job is going great. Last week I worked Tuesday and Thursday at the preschool, but now I have two children I am working wit in the class.  Tomorrow I start a new preschool with two more children.  I am still working my card stores (only two more months on that) and of course it was time to take down Halloween stuff and put up the remaining Christmas supplies. Thursday night Bill and I attended the Dixie Chicks concert with some friends. It was really good but I do think their last appearance in Calgary was better.
Saturday during the day, we moved more stuff over to Ashley's new place. Because she now has her computer and internet set up, I believe she is ready to settle in. Painting her old  room is now on my list of things to do.
Saturday night was a birthday dinner/party for my Mom's 90th birthday. And what a gathering it was. There were 50 people in total and despite the snowing conditions, everyone was there.  It was a very informal get together and I think that made for a relaxed atmosphere. The biggest accomplishment of the evening, in my opinion was having all of Mom's children, grandchildren and great grand children there (except for Patrick who is in the midst of exams at University). This is the first time this has happened in 20 years. And 20 years ago I was pregnant with Patrick so there have been an addition of 8 new members of the family since then. We gone from a group of 17 to 25.

There have been get togethers with us kids, but of course as the kids grow up, not everyone can always get together.

This is a picture of us from 2001

And this is a picture from 1996. I find it ironic that the last two pictures were both taken in Carmangay, Hmmmm, maybe we need to meet more often in Carmangay to get us all together.  Bill and I gave Mom and her friend Bev a ride home after dinner, and I'm guessing from the giddyness from Mom, that she had a wonderful time.

This morning I awoke to a time change (end of day light savings)  I'm not really sure what time I woke up as some of the clocks are changed and some were not.  I was still tired from a busy day yesterday but managed to get a lot accomplished.
Next week is going to be a busy one.
Stay warm.

Blog 4 of October

Did I say October, I meant December.  Just kidding.  We did have our first official snowfall yesterday.  Being that it was a Sunday, you would think people would be able to take it easy on the roads, but no, it is the first snowfall and with it comes people who forget that your driving patterns have to change.  Thank goodness I didn't have to leave the house yesterday.
We did keep busy on Saturday though.  I went to work in the morning, and then spent the rest of the day helping Ashley move into her new place.  I love this place.....love love love it.  It took everything in my power not to want to organize things..  Hopefully everything falls into place for her. She didn't have a great start to the move - flat tire; lost her cell phone (but found it). Lost her car keys (but found them) The lost cell phone was actually a funny story - maybe not to Ashley at the time.  I wake up Sunday morning to a text from Ashley (via Ethan's phone) that she lost her cell phone at a party the night before.  So it's about 8;30 a.m; Sunday and I decide to try phoning her phone to see if anyone picks up.  Sure enough this "baritone" voice answers hello.  I play "dumb" and ask for Ashley.  Baritone replies that he doesn't know who Ashley is, but he found this phone outside of a bar Saturday night.  I thank him and ask for details to come and pick it up.  He informs me that he has already made arrangements with someone to drop it off back at the bar.  He also mentions that he and his roommate have not appreciated being woken up all night by the ringing of the phone. (who wouldn't love hearing the minions from Despicable Me, argue back and forth)  I apologize for calling so early.  He is pretty nice though, and shows some concern for me.  "You must have kinda freaked out calling your daughter early on a Sunday and having some strange guy answer."  I think I surprised him even more when I replied "Naw, she was staying at her boyfriends and I knew she was going to a party the night before!"   Touche.... So I hang up and call Ashley (on Ethan's phone)  I exclaim "Wow, you found your phone." To my surprise she says "No, not yet."  So I go through my entire story, and as we are talking, her work phone rings, and it was the baritone stranger. (did I mention she just hung up on me).  I didn't find out the end of the story until later in the day when Ashley came home (do I still call it her home?)  They left right away and went to meet the guy and Ashley offered him $100.00 for finding her phone.  He wouldn't take the money; he too had lost his phone the previous night, and someone turned it in.  He wanted to return the favor.....Karma!!!!!!
The lost car key story wasn't so funny, only because Bill and I were getting the blame.  Again, it's still Sunday and because of the snow, Bill decides there is no need to be moving stuff.  Ashley and Ethan pop over to pick up a few things and Ashley can't find her car keys from Saturday.  She is adamant that she left them on the kitchen counter.  By now I have packed quite a few boxes from Ashley's room (not in a hurry to get that room cleaned, or am I)  The elephant in the room is suggesting I must have packed them in a box or Bill must have moved them.  Now I have been known to forget some things (Rolling Stones concert comes to mind), but really, I know what her large lanyard with keys look like.  We establish that they must be in the house or at least the yard (she did move her motorcycle).  We also establish what she was wearing and that the keys were not in any of the pockets.  About 30 minutes later, Ethan returns from his truck, with said lanyard in hand.  Seems the sweater Ashley had on, was in the truck, and guess what was in the pocket?  It took some guidance but we did get an apology (for the elephant in the room)
Anyway, I got way off track.  I had wanted to mention the concert we went to last Monday night.

Sarah Brightman.  (or did I already mention it)  Bill is a big fan and we had seen her once before at the Saddledome.  Her original concert was last March, but it was cancelled and rescheduled for October.  Well she is an amazing singer, but her production was a little less than exciting for me. (hopefully I won't forget this show)
Off to run errands and get the hair trimmed.

Blog 3 of October

Ooops.  Time does really fly!!!!! Halloween is almost here and my October blogs seem to be few and far between.  Lets see if I  can recap!!!!

Celebrated Thanksgiving at my sister's home.  Bill and I and Brian and Jane were invited to join the Samer clan.  It was a nice evening.  Food was delicious and the company was very enjoyable.

Bill and I spent a few days in Seattle last week.  We left on a Wednesday and came back on the Saturday.  It was only 4 days but we crammed a lot into those few days.  We love Seattle and I am always impressed by the transit system in that city.  For $2.75 you can take the sky train from the airport directly to downtown Seattle.

We stayed at a different hotel once again.   Parking is very hard to find at the downtown hotels or when you do, it is extremely expensive.  So when we drive to Seattle, we stay just outside of the core.  When we fly, we stay right in the middle of downtown so that most things are within walking distance.  This has probably been the best hotel we have stayed at so far.  It was called the Belltown.  The room was smallish, but there was a queen bed, large desk, table, and small kitchenette with a microwave and sink.  The bathroom was small as well, but really, other than a sink, toilet and tub/shower , what else do you need.

The hotel lends out umbrellas for the rain; bikes for getting around downtown, andan  internet service center on the mail level.  It is only 4 levels high and you can go up to the roof and sit and enjoy the weather. (they say to enjoy the view, but we went up and the view at 5 stories is not that spectacular. )

Only a block away from our hotel was one of the neatest things I have seen in an inner city area.  It was a dog play park.  The park was usually busiest at night.  I could sit and watch these dogs play and socialize all day.

I'm not sure of the exact size, but the dogs had lots of room to run and chase toys.  There were well placed tree's etc. and benches for people to sit.  There was a fence around the entire area, and two sets of gates so that dogs couldn't sneak out.  I wonder how long it would take for Maya to clear out a place like that.  We would sure have to work on her socialization skills

An acquaintance of Bill's (some work connection) was kind enough to pick us up at our hotel on the Thursday  and give us a morning tour.  We went out of town to Snoqualmie Falls Park.

When we first arrived the fog was so strong, you could barely see farther than the falls, but as the morning warmed up, the fog lifted and the view was inviting.

We finished off the morning tour at the Seattle Space Needle.  This is the first time we have actually gone up to the top of the needle.

Here we found a spectacular view of the city (unlike our hotel view).  Owen, (our tour guide) then treated us to lunch.  The menu seemed fancy; for example, cooked chicken on romaine.  But when the waiter brought the meal to Owen, he asked,  "Who is having the Caesar salad with chicken."  Nobody answered because we were waiting for the cooked chicken on romaine.....  Needless to say the prices matched the fancy names.

We thanked Owen for our wonderful morning.  Our next adventure came late afternoon.  We headed down to Pike's Market and sat on the pier to watch the sunset.

We were not disappointed (by the sunset)  Bill however, was annoyed at himself.  He had brought a flask of tequila with him (trust me, it was a lot less conspicuous than the "weed" smoke and the people drinking wine out of brown paper bags), and when he started taking pictures of the sunset, he laid his flask down, and forgot to put the lid on.  Half of the tequila spilled on his lap and pant leg.  Thank goodness alcohol drys fast.

After the sun had left the sky, we headed over to the alley beside Pike's Market.  We had signed up for a Ghost Tour. Hopefully they wouldn't notice the sweet smell of Tequila following  us around.

There are different tours you can do in Seattle.  The city has such a history and a wonderful character about it.  We have done the Underground tour before.  There is also a Ghost Underground tour and a Ghost "Adult" Tour.  We chose the Ghost Alley tour.  We met at the Ghost Alley Expresso.  (It's right next to the famous gum wall.)  The buildings around the market are quite old.  One of them was the Butterworth Mortuary.  Today, there is a restaurant there, and many stories are around about the ghosts that live among the walls.

Friday we revisited Pike's Market and the pier to stroll around and of course give Bill his Seattle craving - no it's not the famous coffee, but his sourdough bread and clam chowder soup.

For some reason, except for Seattle we have never been able to find the double sour dough bread.  And yes, it has been suggested I start making my own sour dough bread.  I'll add that to my list of things to do.

Friday night was the reason we came to Seattle in the first place.  Jazz Alley

Bill is a big jazz fan (he wishes he could play the saxophone) and Jazz Alley brings in some pretty big names.  You can order dinner and watch or just come in for drinks.  This picture is from the entrance, atop the stairs.  Our seat was right in front on the stage, second table.

The group playing was "FourPlay".  Bill has most of their CD's and of course he purchased their latest and got it signed at the end of the show.  They were all fantastic musicians, but the two gentleman in the center were amazing guitarists.

That was our 4 days in a nutshell.  We arrived home Saturday night, and Sunday, it was back to work at my Card stores.

Will catch up more later.

Blog 2 of October

I looked outside this morning and there was a layer of frost on the vehicles (all 40 of them........)
Been trying to get caught up on the laundry.  The sad part of that, 95% of the clothes belong to me.  I guess I have too many clothes like my son (or I have been just wearing the same thing all week)
I have also been watching a lot of "late night talk shows", but not on the television, on my IPad.  I split my relaxing bed time routine between reading and catching up on guests I really like to see.  If you get a chance to watch a You Tube video, try Jimmy Fallon where his guests are Joseph Gorden Levitt and Stephen Merchant. They do a lip syncing competition. It is so funny.    I am becoming a big fan of Mr. Levitt.  I remember him at the gawky boy on "3rd Rock from the Sun."  He has turned into this fine young actor and what would appear to be a gentleman as well.  But my new discovery is Stephen Merchant.  Now those of you who are savvy probably know him as a writer/creator from The Office.  I personally never got into that show, but love Steve Carrell.  So after watching the Jimmy Fallon episode I googled (probably would have never found him in the encyclopedias) Stephen Merchant and watched his stand-up comedy routine.  It was also very funny.  Will be following both of those gentleman's careers.
It's going to be a relatively quiet weekend.  Bill left for Houston (yes De, Houston Texas)  He's gone to watch some car racing stuff..... So the house will be a little quiet for a couple of days.
Ashley, Ethan and I are making pan fried dumplings Saturday morning.  I'm hope to recreate the same ones that Lora taught Anne and I to make last weekend.
And this afternoon, I ordered tickets for a great concert coming to town.

Yup, Chicago is coming to town.  Love their music and the sounds should be awesome in the Jubilee.
Better get the clothes out of the dryer (wouldn't want to have to rewash them again.)
Enjoy the weekend.

Blog 1 of October

Ahhhh, say it isn't so.  October 1st.  Where did that month come from?  Seems like I just blinked and September was out the door and now October is here.  Shoot I just realized it's Tuesday and the first Tuesday in October.  I guess I missed another 10% Tuesday at Safeways.
Had a busy weekend.   Friday night, I spent the entire evening making Won Tons.  Ashley had asked for them a couple of weeks ago, so I thought I better get some in the freezer.  I had thought she would be home in time to help me make them, but turns out, she wasn't.
Saturday I spent the day in my Reiki course.  I have officially taken my level 1 Reiki.  I have been faithfully practicing on myself since Saturday.  One thing I have noticed and was talk by our instructor that it could happen, is the weird and vivid dreams I've been happening.  One seemed so real, I almost called my sister-in-law to talk about it, and then realized it was only a dream!!!!!
I rushed home Saturday, after my class finished at 5:45; changed and headed down to the Jack Singer center to meet Bill.  We had tickets to "Whose Line is It?"  We went with another couple.  What a  blast.  The improv lasted almost 2 hours and the cast included:

Ryan Stiles;  He was one of the original cast members from the show in England and the U.S.  He can be seen currently on 2 1/2 men and Judith's husband

Greg Proops:  He is also one of the original cast members from both shows.

Jeff Davis:  He was on a few of the newer shows and I believe he participates in the show from Vegas with Drew Carey.

and Joel Murray.  I have never seen Joel on the show before, but I do remember him from Dharma and Greg, where he played Greg's best friend.

We were in the second row, but unfortunately Bill didn't get called up on Stage (which was my dream).
It wasn't a really late night, but I was certainly tired from the long day.
Sunday, Anne and I got a cooking lesson from Lora (cousin visiting)  She talk us to make sticky rice (without the leaves) and pan fried dumplings.  Ashley and Ethan want to learn the dumplings so hopefully we can get together in the next couple of weeks to make them again. (and hopefully they turn out as good as our teacher's)
I'm hoping to spend the day tomorrow getting my paper work together for the new job.  I still don't have a start date (mid October), but better to be ready.  I can hardly wait to start working with little ones again.

I better get my desk cleared off and ready for bed.  Lots of reading to do.

Blog 7 of September

It's Tuesday evening and I'm ready for bed.  Have been feeling more tired than usual lately.  I've been blaming it on the season (hopefully I shake it soon).  I had gotten blood work done a couple of weeks ago and everything must have came back ok, because I haven't heard from the doctor's office.
No time for bed though.  We have some company coming over for a visit.  Bill's cousin and family from California is in town.  Just a small get together.
Sunday night we help Bill's Uncle celebrate his 90th birthday.  There was a family get together at a Chinese buffet.  There were around 50 people.  I love those get together's ; they are always a great time catching up.
Monday was my meeting with my card manager for my annual review.  Came away with a great report, but I did mention I might want to cut back a couple of stores.  I'll keep that in the back of my mind.
Then today I had a job interview with a service company.  Looks like I'll be working again with some young kids.  I don't have all the details yet, but came home with all their information packages and binders.  That one might not start until mid -October; after assessments are done.
Other than that it has been a relatively quiet few days.  I'm still looking for my birthday present from Patrick (but not very hard).  I'm beginning to think like Bill, that maybe he didn't even buy anything, and can't remember.
I better go get the tequila poured or the tea brewing - one way or another it's going to be a relaxing night.

Blog 6 of September

52 years ago today, this little cutie came along!!!  Thanks to everyone for all the lovely birthday wishes.  I was going through old pictures and came to the realization that I have no pictures of me as a baby with my parents, or my siblings for that matter.  Hmmmm.  I have a couple as a toddler with Robin.  I was rockin' cowboy boots and a diaper.
I have a difficult time wrapping my head around the number 52.  I certainly don't feel old, but maybe 52 isn't old anymore.  It certainly seemed like an old number when I was in my 20's.
It's even more amazing to me to look at some famous people who are the same age as me.  Such as Julia Louise Dreyfus, Eddie Murphy, George Lopez, George Clooney (too bad he likes younger ladies), Dennis Rodman, Drew Carey, Melissa Ethridge, Michael J Fox, Boy George, Toby Keith,  Ricky Gervais, Leif Garrett, Kelly Hrudey, Mark Messier, Wayne Gretzky, and the president himself, Barack Obama.  Of course the list was much longer.
A couple of people who were born in different years but have the same birthday - Sophia Loren (1934), Guy LaFleur (1951) and Kristin Johnston (1967).
A lot of things happened in 1961 - Syria was in the news, even back then "Syria withdraws from United Arab Republic."  And on September 20, 1961, USSR performs nuclear test at Novaya Zemlya USSR.  No wonder the earth shook when I was born.
The number one song the week I was born "Take Good Care of My Baby" by Bobby Vee.
This passed year has been an eventful one and I am looking forward to seeing what the next year has in store for me.  Let me rephrase that, I am looking forward to what I can create in my life this coming year.

Thanks to Bill, Ashley and Ethan for taking me out for a lovely supper to Earls (had a gift card that needed used up)  And a big thanks to Patrick for bringing a smile to my face, even from so far away.  Patrick called in the morning to wish me a happy birthday - and then he told me about my birthday present - he bought me a phone charger for my car and me new i-phone.  One problem - he can't remember where he hid it.  So tonight we played hide and seek - still no charger, but I'm sure it will show up (or Patrick might have a memory burp)  Either way, it made for a memorable birthday.

Blog 5 of September

Today was a very productive day - finally.
I purposely tried to go back to sleep after Bill left at 5:45 am.  I didn't care what time my day was going to start.  I spent most of the morning on the phone, paying bills and getting estimates.

Estimates for what?  Well, that image above might look like the reflection of a bird, but no, it is the result of a very bad shot by a golfer.  It happened last week.  I had just gotten home from work and was opening the back door to let Maya out.  There was a gentleman standing at the fence and he was frowning and pointing to my left.  I didn't get the signal (or hint) and then he asked if I didn't hear it.  Seems the bad shot must have happened just before I walked in the door.  The gentleman took full responsibility (which is sometimes rare on a golf course) and was very apologetic.  I told him not to worry about the inconvenience, we live on a golf course for crying out loud - it's expected.  Poor guy though, it was the second largest window in the back - my large viewing window from the bedroom.   So hopefully we will have it fixed in a week or two (before any snow........)

I also want to show you some "cute things" I made for Ashley's party
I was actually looking this idea up for a friend.  And I thought it was so cool.  You just take glass mason jars, and put in a glow stick.  While everyone was sitting out by the campfire on Friday night, I put these out around the table and it looked wonderful.   Where do people come up with these ideas.

So in addition to all my paper work, phone work, and sleeping it, I also managed to get the upstairs floors washed, and used my magic bullet to make my shredded ginger and garlic for freezing.  I love productive days.

Now it's time to put on the PJ's, grab a cup of tea and enjoy some reading.

Till next time.

Blog 4 of September

Is it really possible that we are half way through September already?  That just doesn't seem right!

First I want to start by sending out belated birthday wishes to Miss Cheryl.  I have it marked on my calendar and your card hopefully arrived in time.

Next, I want to wish a Happy 24th Anniversary to my sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Anne and Brian.

Yes, 24 years ago they tied the knot.  And just before the bride walked down in the aisle, Bill and I and our baby Ashley, who was just three days old, walked down to find a seat.
Yes Ashley celebrated her 24th birthday on Friday, September 13th.  She had the day off of work and she planned her own party.  First we went horseback riding during the day (I took one for the team and represented the family) and then Ashley has a great group of people over for dinner.  She had friends from Junior High, horseback friends, gym friends, employers...etc.  It was a fun night.
It was a long day for me.  I was still recovering from the walk, the weekend before.  Then the 1 1/2 horseback ride on a very fat horse (named Homer), and the cooking, etc, I was ready for a nap all weekend.
Hopefully this week won't be quite a busy and I can catch up on a lot of things.
Here's to a carefree week.

Blog 3 of September

Ok, I am alive.  I made it.  The walk is over.....
This time last week, I was in the middle of the KidneyMarch 2013, and it was pouring rain.  What a difference a week makes.  But let me give a short synopsis.
Friday, September 6 :  My girlfriend Jean and her husband picked me up at the house around 5:30 a.m. and we head for the Delta Hotel in the South.

That was the meet up point where we boarded a couple of buses and head to the Millarville Race Track, the starting point of the March.  As you can see, we were certainly not the first people to arrive.

There were approx 158 people registered to walk in the March and probably 75 - 100 more that were crew members.

We did a little warm up with a very enthusiastic Zumba instructor.  Thank goodness these are still photos and not video, although it would have been a lot more entertaining for you.

It was a little chilly before the walk started.

The March was supposed to start at 8:00 a.m.  I think we were probably about 15 minutes late in getting started.

As the sun came out, the day got very warm.

Following the road signs helped me to see which way we were headed (not really, it just gave me comfort to know we were actually heading someplace.  The lovely weather lasted right up until about 5 km left in the walk.  Then it started to drizzle and that lasted until just before bed time.

Our camp city was located in the Boy Scouts campground.  The only facilities of the boy scouts that we used were the showers.   Everything else was a tent, put up and provided by the Kidney Foundation.  This was our dining tent and also used for the nightly karaoke.

This was "tent city."  Our tent was A1.  You can see the wall of port-o-potties in the background.  I was slightly disappointed in the "sleeping situation."  The tents were too small for two people.  Let me rephrase that.  The tents were probably just the right size for two people, but too small for two people and their "baggage."  The first night, I got cramps in my legs because I couldn't stretch me legs out as my bag was at the end of my sleeping bag.  The second night, Jean and I figured out that if we piled our bags on top of each other in the middle, we could at least tightly squeeze our legs to the bottom of our sleeping bags.  I also then found out at the end of the walk, that some people requested their own tent.  I guess as a newbie, we didn't have this knowledge!!!!

Day 2 we boarded a bus that took us back to where we had finished the day before.  It was raining when we woke up in the morning ............

And it continued raining for the entire day.  Many people I talked to said they felt bad for us, but really, the rain wasn't that bad.  We weren't cold; we didn't have to walk in mud (until we got back to camp),  and it made the hot shower at the end of the day that much more special.

There was a slight break in the rain for about 30 minutes - perfect timing for our Kananaskis picture.  One of the walkers made a good point.  There is no such thing as a water proof runner!!!!

This lovely clown was one of the medical volunteers.  They were a special group of people.  They took care of all our aches, pains and blisters.  I developed many blisters on the Saturday (the rain day) and I'm pretty sure it was from walking in wet shoes.

This was the last night in our tent (the night we discovered how to make for leg room - hence the smiles)

Sunday Day 3, and 100 km later, we arrived at COP (Canada Olympic Park).  We arrived at the top of the hill, went through the finish line, received our red-T-shirts) - our badge of glory I guess.  Then we as a group, marched down the hill (which I'm sure was at least another 1 km - or felt like it after 100 km)

Jean's husband was there to greet her.  Bill and Maya came to greet me.  (Ashley was working and Patrick in Victoria), but Maya's enthusiasm made up for them.  I was ready to go home, soak my weary feet and get some much needed sleep.  We first had to attend the closing ceremonies and then retrieve our gear.

I was glad for the experience.  I can now cross that "5 km" walk off my list - 20 times.  Would I do it again?  It is sort of like childbirth.  If you ask me right now, I'd say no....... never again.  But give it a few months, who knows what my answer might be.

It's been a week since the walk, and a lot of things have happened so I will do my best to update things on the blog.
