Day 8 of November

It's only 10:00 pm, but it feels like midnight. It has been a long day. Was up before the crack of dawn this morning. 6:00 am to be exact. Bill had tickets to a private screening of the new Harry Potter movie. From the crowd response, it was very good. I can't remember if I even seen the last Harry Potter movie. Patrick's girlfriend came in Ashley's place. When we told her she had to pretend to be Ashley, she did a very good job.
Right after the movie, we had to get to the soccer dome for Patrick's soccer game. Thanks to the GPS and the dry roads, we were there in plenty of time. Unfortunately the boys lost - the other team played a much better game - but with the right mentallity and energy, I think our boys could have challenged them for the win. Patrick was happy with his play, so he's off the hook for eating popcorn at 9:30 in the morning!
We dropped Stephanie off at home, and I came home for a snooze. Patrick was supposed to be doing homework and I don't know what Bill got up to. Bill headed out early to hit the gym (doesn't miss a day) and then he was off for an end of season dinner with the rugby guys. I'm sure there will be alot of injury stories to share. So Patrick and I got lazy and ordered Chinese Food. I made sure to order enough for supper tomorrow night as well. Not feeling the cooking this weekend.
Friday night was a bit of a disaster. I had bought our fake tree and Patrick and Stephanie had plans to decorate it. Even with the new stand, the darn thing wouldn't stand up. Talk about frustrating. So we dragged everything back downstairs and I tied it to a hook in the ceiling. Poor pathetic tree. Bill is going to take it out in the garage tomorrow and shoot it out of it's misery. Actually, he's going to take it in the garage and make a stand that would hold up this house. I just had to have the fibre optic tree.
I'm going to focus on having some great energy tomorrow and take mom for groceries - not a big fan of crowds, but somebody's got to do it and Sunday is my only free day this week.
Well, off to work on more Christmas cards.

Day 7 of November

Day 7 and November is almost over. I have been a very busy lady - so a short synopsis of the past week is in order.

I have had the best time cuddling my new nephew. What a sweet heart. Last Friday and this past Sunday were cuddle and spoil Linden days. Did I mention he is a sweet heart. You forget how tiny a new born is.

The weather has been cold and colder around here. Thankfully today the sun at least peaked through the clouds.

I had a visit with psychic Kim on Wednesday. This is my third time to see her, but it certainly wasn't my best visit. I was hoping to have a little chat with my mother-in-law, but she was nowhere to be heard. Maybe next time. However, Dad was there again - and apparently he was patting me on the head. Kim asked if Dad had a brother that passed recently. I told her no, and she was surprised. She said there was a man with him, seemed like a brother, that had recently passed. I explained that his brother-in-law recently passed. She just went hmmm, maybe - she said this man had a farm, or small town feeling around him!!!! I'm pretty sure she was referring to Uncle Len. Then I asked if Dad had been the one to meet this man. She said all souls/spirits are there , but the one to greet this man was his mother, a very small and petite, but fiesty lady; maybe Grandmas Fraser. Anyway that is one more thing that can be ticked off my 50 list.

Wednesday night Bill and I went to see Paul Revere and the Raiders. I had won tickets on the radio. Probably a lot of people don't remember this band. One of my favorite songs growing up was Indian Reservation. Bill said that his first ever album was Paul Revere and the Raiders. Anyway, Paul is almost 73. The music brought back a lot of memories; but the best part of the show, was the sense of humor. It was pure entertainment. If you are familar with this band, you'll love the show. Don't tell Bill, but I ordered the CD for him for Christmas!

Thursday, the weather was much warmer, and more adaptable to my mood. Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends. Have fun shopping on Friday.

I'm am off to bed early tonight. Tired of being tired.

Day 6 of November

The cold snowy weather continues - for now.
Had an interesting conversation with my Mom yesterday. She was under the impression that I hadn't been in touch with her since Uncle Len's memorial the previous Tuesday. At first I started to argue with her that yes, I had been in touch 4 or 5 times since. Mom didn't think so - and then she remember that Sunday we talked as I was going to the Motown show. But that was the only time, she was sure. And then the light bulb when on - for me. She honestly doesn't remember. Why do I need to make her remember? Unless the conversation was filled with facts that she is looking for, the issue is not an issue. So she doesn't remember. I don't want to be the one to make her feel like she is getting old and her memory is gone. So note to self, I need to be more aware of these type of incidents to keep Mom at a healthy happy place in her life.

This Wednesday (hump day) gave me a bit of a challenge for getting anything done. I had great plans - but my eyes just wanted to veg. I did manage to get out and shovel the driveway and sidewalks before lunch time. But by the time I left to pick up Patrick for coaching, they were covered again. Project for thursday's lunch time.

Had a bit of shock tonight - bill has done many weird things in his time, but this one is at the top of the list. He asked me to come into his office to how me our list of assets and where everything is, how it works etc. At first this didn't seem out of the ordinary. Sometimes we do a 1/2 summary. But his next comment left me speechless. He said he would place the piece of paper on the corner of his desk. Again I was still baffled. Then comes the reason - seems Bill and a few other workers from the company are taking a flight up to Grande Prairie for the day. They are chartering a small plane from out of Springbank. One of the guys going has some concerns. These concerns raised concerns for bill. so the deal is, they drive to the Springbank airport tomorrow, and unless this fellow can qualify his concerns the flight is a go. Was it wrong for me to be furious. Then I realized this is bill and he doesn't want to leave anything to chance. My comment to him, was, if he didnt' come back, I was giving all his money away to charity. And I thought I was too organized.

Looking forward to a relaxing weekend.

Day 5 of November

After every calm weekend, must come a crazy Monday (or manic as the song goes)

I only had two must get done jobs for Monday- laundry and supper. Laundry, because I promised the son he wouldn't have to rescue his soccer uniform out of a stinky washing machine any more and supper because Patrick and I won't get home until 7:00 tonight.

Laundry got started and then I moved into the kitchen. Defrosted the chicken; emptied the the dishwasher; reloaded the dishwasher; boiled the chicken; needed two pots (lots of chicken). Since when does spilled boiled water create such smoke; you have probably guessed the next outcome. I also knew the smoke detector was going to go off, so I turned on the fan, and opened up the back door - alas, not in time. So the smoke detector goes off as does Maya. I know the procedure; the alarm company is going to call and find out if it is a false alarm. Now where did I leave Bill's phone. I haven't been able to find the kitchen one all morning. Patrick has it hidden somewhere. Hmmm, keep looking - then the phone rings; I think it just started but it's hard to hear over the damn smoke alarm and Maya. I run downstairs to get the basement phone but it has stopped ringing. So I run back upstairs and the phone rings again - I find Bill's phone and luckily I am able to get to it before they hang up. Yes it's the alarm company; he asks me if I'm cooking (obviously there is a note on file about previous incidents) yes, I'm cooking, my name is Stacey, and he hangs up. In the back of my mind, I'm hoping he heard everything and the fire department won't be showing up - should I get out of my PJ's and comb my hair? Naw, if they show up I'll just let them rescue me.......

Then came Tuesday and the first major snowfall of the winter. And with a new snow fall comes "new drivers" I realize patience is needed by all, but .... I guess I don't have any but's - I just need to be patience. And I am not complaining about the snow because really, we have had a beautiful fall up until now and it's November 16th.

Speaking of November 16th, Happy Birthday to my beautiful niece Susan and a welcome to the world to my new nephew Lyndon Nicholas. Ben called around noon today to tell us the wonderful news. When I asked when he was born, Ben said last night - But it's noon I told him - what took so long to phone - Ben said he had to sleep - I had to bring him up to date on baby ettiquette. Phone, phone, phone..... Can't wait to meet the little one.

Also had a dododododo moment. It was three o'clock and I was driving to pick up Patrick from school. On the radio came a song that I haven't heard on the radio in a very long time - it was one of the songs we used to sing in Carmangay all the time. "Last Kiss!" Seems to me it was a week ago we attended Uncle Len's memorial in Carmangay. Just one of those energy moments. I believe Uncle Len was thinking of me and I of him.

Anyway off to take Patrick to more soccer practices. I think I'll run a few errands.

Day 4 of November

Well what a wonderful Sunday to finish off a nice weekend. We are still snowless in Calgary, but I hear that will change this week.

Robin and I went to Stagewest for brunch and a show today. This was our birthday gift to each other. It was "Motown Gold!" Need I say more. It was a musical review - songs from Martha Reeves and The Vandellas, The Miracles, The Temptations, The Supremes, The Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, The Jackson's, Gladys Knight and the Pips, and the Cmmodores. Basically from pre-Motown - to early Motown to Disco Motown to the New Motown. It was wonderful. I was surprised at the number of "elderly" people in the audience. They must be season ticket holders - but I swear there wasn't one gray hair in the place that was boppin' to the music. Good thing the lights were down and the music was loud, 'cause I was dancin' in my seat and singing loud and proud. Hopefully I didn't embarrass Robin too much. In addition to the great show, the food was fantastic. I will be trying out Stage West again, no question!

After I dropped Robin off at home, I headed to Staples for some ink. Apparently the son had some homework he needed to print; I had already ordered some on line, but it wasn't going to be delivered until Monday!!! I guess you can never have too much ink.

Then I headed to Canadian Tire to look for my Christmas Tree. If you aren't familar with the Christmas Tree saga - it goes something like this. Last year we decided we needed a new "fake" tree. Ours was 25 years old and a little broken up. So I gave it to Robin to use until she got a new one. I wanted a tree with optic lighting. Found one at Canadian Tire. It was beautiful, but had one fault - the base of the tree wasn't big enough to support the tree and it kept falling down - over and over and over - I lost a few great ornaments. So I returned it after Christmas (with great difficulty) So today at Canadian Tire, I found my tree - unfortunately it was the same one as last year - fortunately I bought a wider base for it; unfortunately there will have to be some homemade adjustments in order for it to fit; fortunately it was on sale - and i got the tree I love. Now I want to make those adjustments so I can start decorating in my spare time - hahahah - almost fell off my chair laughing.

Any way, time to clean off my desk and head to bed - another busy week is almost upon us. I love my life!!!!! (I must so not be PSM'ing)
Night to all

Day 3 of November

It is the 11th of November and I have only blogged three times. So sorry. November 11th. Remembering. I was very impressed to see that when I went to Chapters this morning, they were closed until 11:05.

It was a busy day though. Worked two different stores. Spent 4 hours at Chapters just getting the Christmas stuff set up. Boy was I tired, hungry and thirsty when I got home. I left a note for Patrick to get supper started. The note read, please boil the potatoes - peel them and cut them into quarters. Well obviously I didn't put the instructions in the correct order, because when I came home, the entire potatoes were sitting in a pot of water on the stove. I should have put, please peel and cut into the quarters the potatoes and then put them on the stove to boil!!!! What was I thinking!

I had a wonderful email yesterday. It was from my friend Rose. She invited me on a trip to Mexico in April. Check my calendar - checked Bill's calendar - checked with Bill - he didn't even blink twice, and told me to go!!!! So guess what - I'm going. An entire week. Sun, food, great ladies and a few margaritas!!!!! Cinco de Mayo has come early to the Wee household. Looking forward to it Rose.

Had a wonderful heart to heart talk with the son this afternoon. It's been almost 8 months that he and his girlfriend have been going out. I don't want to betray his confidence, but we are on the same page on alot of things - and I feel our mother-son relationship is a great one! What a son!

Also had a great conversation with Sam's mom. Looks like Sam is moving on and up in January. She is such a great lady. We are so going to ace these next few tests. That means I might actually be down by one job!!! It is one of my favorites...

Now I just trying to get a few things done on the computer. Need to book Ashley's flight home for Christmas - the computer isn't letting me do it, so I'm stuck on hold waiting for help. Also I need to scan some pictures for Ashley. Seems the people at work are planning a surprise for Bill for his 50th and they'd like a few snapshots - Bodybuilding picture maybe!!!!!

We are still snow free, but you can sure feel the snow in the air. Hopefully nothing with materialize until Patrick gets home with my car from his soccer session.

I think that pretty much covers the day. Need to get some knitting down and finish up the Christmas cards.

Day 2 of November

What an amazing day; what an amazing service; what an amazing family; what an amazing man! Where to start. It was the memorial service for Uncle Len on Tuesday. To say the room what packed with friends and family would be an understatement. There were tears, lots of tears, but there were also lots of smiles. I know Uncle Len was proud and honored to have everyone at the service. But he would have also been a little annoyed that it takes a "funeral" to bring everyone together, when really all we need is a little effort. I truly don't understand why we wait. These "extended" family get togethers are always a blast. It's almost like any barriers are removed and everyone is just "themselves." It was so good to see everyone. All Uncle Len's sister's were there. And there was at least one representative from each of the families. That's how special Uncle Len was. Everyone loved him and he loved everyone. I know I could have stayed and visited all night; it was hard to leave. I know Mom had a great time. She was so happy to have all her kids there as well. Mom and I also had great conversations on the way to Carmangay and back. We reminiced, held hands, sang and laughed alot. I love those moments. To all my cousins, I am proud to say we are related.

We arrived back at Mom's by 9:30. We followed cousin Fred most of the way home. It almost takes longer to get across the city than to actually drive to Carmangay. I could go on and on about the day.....visits to Carmangay always bring back great memories. The old "hospital" house; sorting buttons; kick the can by the big - no the humungus tree in the back yard (or was it the front yard- I don't I knew which was the front or back of the house); the bunk beds; the train station; the ice cream down at the cafe; the haircuts by Paul; the pet duck that Doug had; Nestle chocolate milk powder overdose; the bathroom with no lock; the dirt basement; the piano; the Dr. Seuss books; the round dining room table you could never see; the colored water; the back door with that never locked; the discussion that one of the"Green" boys might be a vampire; the fuzzy tv screen to watch the hockey game; - I can close my eyes and remember it all.

So arrived home, changed and headed out to pick up Patrick from his soccer practice in Bearspaw. He sure seemed to glad to see me - or maybe he was glad to see my car. Either way I felt needed!!!

I actually started to compose this blog last night (De), but between being tired and Patrick hovering over me wanting the computer, I thought I'd finish it this morning. And finish it I have. I have 102 things left to do before I hit job number 3 or is it 4 today. Working at the Hamptons school and then soccer stuff. Somewhere I need to sneak into Chapters and get those Christmas cards out.

Here's the poem I wrote for Uncle Len

A husband, a father
A brother, a friend
But I know him best
As my dear Uncle Len

From when I was little
Til now that I'm grown
He's been the same man
That I've always known

From his belly grown laugh
To his music appeal
To his tricks with his teeth
At the end of a meal

His walk had a click
That I thought was cool
And the things he could make
With a wood working tool

So put a smile on your face
When you think of this man
Cause that's what he's doing
Looking down on the clan.

Love you Uncle Len.

Day 1 of November

I almost put day 15 of October, but alas, October has come and gone, and with it some of the most beautiful weather of the year. It our weather could stay like this 12 months of the year, I would give up summer weather (that wouldn't have been a loss this year)

It was been a busy week. I'm hoping this is unusual and not my norm, otherwise, I may have created a monster. I'm still enjoying all the jobs, but I did underestimate the time line. I figured a max of 27 hours a week - on a busy week; forgot travel time. That's where I have the most unproductive time. The good thing about it, is that although I am tired, I have no time to nap, so I'm in bed early and get a great sleep!!!! Maybe this is the new day format.

Had big plans for the weekend. I convinced Mom to take a trip with me to Lethbridge to visit Uncle Len. It took a fair amount of convincing. Mom is not one who is comfortable visiting people in the hospital. I'm not sure, but it may be from when Dad was sick and she was there all the time. Association some times plays havoc on your mind set. Anyway, I told her I was going with or with out her, but we were going to make it an over night trip - with a nice birthday dinner. Unfortunately Uncle Len passed away on Wednesday evening. I'm not sure if I have ever talked about my favorite uncle before. I can close my eyes and see his smile and when he'd laugh his shoulders would shake up and down. His laugh came from his belly. He gave the toast to the bride at our wedding 25 years ago. I can't remember his speech, but he gave me the most memorable gift; it was an inside joke and really too long to get into here. He gave us this present and said we couldn't open it until we got to our honeymoon destination. I couldn't wait, so I opened it on the plane. Turns out it was a bag of buttons. Those darn buttons went to Disneyland and on our cruise to Mexico. As far as uncle's go, he is one of the best.

Went and had coffee with Janice tonight. Dropped Patrick off at fitness and we met at Starbucks. It was a post birthday celebration. Janice looked good - no she looked great.

After we got home I was checking my emails and I had one from "ocean fish.com" Seems they got my letter; were quite apologetic; gave me details of their quality control system; and I'll should be looking for a gift package to be delivered shortly. As I said in my last posting - they have great products!

Tomorrow is going to be relaxing. I had cleared my calendar to take mom to Lethbridge. I guess it would be a good time to get those unfinished projects - finished.
