Day 5 of April

Is Monday over yet?

What a weekend!!! It was the 1st Annual Up and Away Ladies Weekend at the Fairmont Hotsprings Resort. 97.7 ladies Leslie, Robyn and Susan joined 67 ladies, including me and my BFF Janice on a bus ride from Calgary to Fairmont. We left Calgary at 1:00 pm on Friday and arrived in Fairmont just after 4:00pm. Without telling too many tales (because just like Vegas, what happens in Fairmont, stays in Fairmont, unless of course you happen to capture it on camera, then it ends up on Facebook.) We were wisked away to our rooms and some lovely young men brought our luggage to our rooms. Then is was meet and greet in lobby for misc. martini's. That's where Janice won us some prizes. Good thing she was listening to the info on the bus, because there was a quiz. Then we headed to the restaraunt for dinner. A quick clean up in our room and we headed to the lounge for some "Kareokee" . And yes that is Janice and I doing our duet "If I had 1,000,000 dollars. I only got up three times (didn't want to embarass myself all night.) I think we were back in our room and asleep by midnight. then it was Saturday. First order of the day was a nice breakfast brunch. I woke up with a small sore throat and figured it was from the singing - not the three songs I did, but I did sing along to every other person that night. After breakfast we headed to the golf range - for some shooting lessons. I can honestly say, "I still don't like golf" Back to the hotel for a break and lunch. We had made plans for mini facials, but we cancelled those and just hung out at the pool. The afternoon entertainment was interesting and surprising. I was introduced for the first time to a burlesque show. The ladies were amazing and one came away with a proudness of "who cares what one looks like." And these ladies were very talented. More down time and then Jance headed to the wine tasting while I tried to lose a headache and sore throat. Then it was dinner time. - another buffett. After dinner were two female comics who were equally talented. I will never look at an I-pad the same. To wind up the evening was the "70's" party. And what a party. How was the party? Let's skip to the next morning. I didn't sleep all night (aching shoulder - from golfing) (aching legs - from non stop dancing) (small tummy ache - unfortunately not from drinking) (new sore throat - from more singing) ( and a big red mark on my forhead - from wearing a plastic "peace" sign where the ink rubbed off on my head) Needless to say it was a much quieter bus trip home. thankfully no one was home when I arrived and I quietly climbed into bed, where I remained until early evening.

If you visit the Up97.7 radio page on facebook, you'll see a few more pictures that will show the fun had by all. Now I need a week to re-coup.

On a side note - Happy Birthday Wishes to Miss Caylee - I can't believe she is three years old today. Where did that time go?

Have a great week everyone.

Day 3 of April

It's Monday; midway through April and the backyard is once again covered in snow. I know I shouldn't be surprised but I have had the "bug" and energy to get out and work in the garden. Not sure how long that feeling is going to stick around.
Bill's cousin Lora and daughter Linda have been visiting from California. They lived in Calgary for a few years, but I'm pretty sure Lora doesn't miss this crazy Calgary weather. Linda on the other hand has been taking pictures all week.
Just getting ready for work with my little guy. This job only goes to prove that everything happens for a reason. I'm loving it.
Just finished a wonderful book. It's called "Carly's Voice." If you know anyone who is on the Autism spectrum, this is a must read. I guarantee you'll come away with a better appreciation of what this "people" are going through. I know I've learned alot and it has made me a better care giver because of it. I had a hard time putting the book down, and finished it in less than a week.
Looking forward to next weekend. It's girl's weekend with my BFF Janice. We're off to Fairmont Hot Springs with Up 97.7 radio hosts. Can't wait. Will try and remember all the details to blog about.
Anyway will talk later

Day 2 of April

Seriously Mother Nature - shouldn't you be having hot flashes!!!!!!
April 5, 1993 - Patrick Davis Wee was born. I don't remember too many of the details - even though I was drugless. I do remember arguing with the nurses because I wanted to sit up and they told me it was too uncomfortable and that I needed to lay down. I remember the Dr telling me not to go into labour on the Sunday because she had to sing in the church choir and didn't want to miss it. I remember after being induced; about 4 hours later telling the nurses that I thought I was in labour - they asked me how I could tell - I said "BECAUSE IT HURTS!" I remember thinking "Why does the Lloydminster hospital have to be on the Saskatchewan side of the border?" And I guess my last thought was when our baby was born and the nurses said you have a "Baby Boy" and I thankfully thought to myself- thankgoodness I didn't let Bill name him Simon (after one of the chipmunks) and I didn't let Ashley name him Michaelangelo (after one of the Ninja turtles) Nope, it was Patrick Davis Wee or as he now gets called P Wee!!!! (so I messed up slightly)
"The man without shoes complains until he meets the man without legs. Stay driven but don't forget what you've been given." - this is a quote from my son's facebook page - he says it is his quote (but don't quote me on that)

April 6, 1985 - Bill and I were married. Again I don't remember too many of the details. But a few things do stand out - I kept wondering what Rev. Kong was saying to the congregation - and did he actually marry us? I remember my cousin Laurie calling out to see if they was any McDonalds on the menu? I remember not getting to eat much of the meal because we had to go to each table to toast people. I remember not knowing 250 of the 300 people there. I remember my brother walking me down the aisle and I turned to him and said "Guess it's too late to back out?" I remember dancing every dance that night but only one of them was with the groom. I remember my brother-in-law Ben just about tipping over my fake cake. I remember the proud smile of my mother-in-law as she presented us to the 250 people at the wedding who she knew. I remember the next morning (or sometime there after) finding my first car; my Mazda GLC filled to the brim with confetti and balloons. (Even to the day I sold my car years later, I could still turn on the fan and coffetti would come out.)

So for our anniversary, Bill and I went out for dinner. I asked if we should invite the young ones (Ashley and Ethan). He said no. I then asked if it was going to be a romantic dinner? Again he said no. We ended going to the Chicago Chop House. It was nice (I'm happy with the Keg's steaks - I'm easy) Of course it wouldn't be an evening out, if Bill didn't run into someone he knows. Turns out our waiter, used to work at the Hamptons golf course last year.

So now we're at Saturday - today. I went to Mom's place as they were having an Easter Dessert Brunch. That is my kind of brunch. Mom had made reservations so we were sitting at a table with another gentleman from the manor and his daughter and son. Here goes my theory that this is sure a small world. We were having a nice chat - and of course the question of where are you from came up - Can you say Carmangay. Seems this lady grew up around Champion - in the country - somewhere between Carmangay and Champion. Her Dad is from Clareholm (he lives in the manor and will be 98 next week) Of course mom was just thrilled. She always gets a smile on her face when she meets people who know of Carmangay. And it is the one time she can remember everyone's name - not sure what psychic abilitiy that comes from. I guess it would only make sense on why she wants to be cremated and her ashes thrown someone down in Carmangay - by the old mines.

And now tonight Ashley and Ethan are coming home for supper (along with Ethan's parents) and Bill had headed out to Peter's Drive in for some great comfort food.
Happy Easter to everyone.

Day 1 of April

Can you believe it is the 1st day of April. I must be getting more maturity (as opposed to old), because it never dawned on my once to pull an April Fool's joke. Although, we went for Dim sum this morning with some old friends. As we are sitting at the table waiting for them, Bill's phone rings and it is Ray asking where we are. Seems Bill gave them the wrong name of the restaraunt and they were at a different place. They arrived shortly afterward, and had I been on the ball, I would have said "April Fools". Only it was really more like "oops were the fools!"
This is another busy week coming up. We will be celebrating Patrick's 19th birthday from afar. 19 - that's legal drinking age in B.C. Apparently his friends have something planned for him. He's just finishing up his final classes and studying for finals. He'll be home by the 26th. Also this week, is the 68th birthday of my brother - yes I have a brother. His birthday is actually the same day at our wedding anniversary - and that would be year number 27 for us - whoa... Throw in Easter on the weekend, and it's a busy time. Bill's cousin is flying in from California mid week, so will have some visiting to do. Mom has an appointment at the cast clinic. Hopefully they will give her the thumbs up to stop wearing her brace. I don't think she is really getting much help from it anyways. Half the time she doesn't wear it because the "aides" don't get to her room before she goes down for breakfast; and when they do try and help, they don't know how to work it, and mom tries to show them....enough said. Also must remember to make a trip up to mom's room. Seems she's lost her teeth!!!! I think - or she thinks. The problem is I took her a bout 6 months ago to get new teeth. We got them, and she stopped wearing them because they hurt. Of course she didn't tell me this until she was in the Carewest center. So today when we talked, she can only find one set of teeth and she's not sure if they are the new ones or the old ones; they don't hurt (must be the old ones), but they don't it well (must be the new ones). It only goes to prove, people should only have one set of teeth at a time. I can still hear mom laughing on the other end of the phone while she tries to tell me this story. Thank goodness she can see the humor in it. So I guess I'm going on a "denture hunt" this week.
Now I'm just cleaning up my desk until around 12:30 - when it will be time to pick the daughter up from the airport. She's been in Vancouver all weekend for a Cheerleading competition. Hmmm. I think it's time I went on a nice little get a way......
Til later
