4th Day of October

Memory: 7 years ago today - in 2004, Bill and I attended a Jubilations Dinner Theatre - CSI Moosejaw. I obviously won the tickets, because I don't see any other way I could have convinced Bill to go to Jubilations. He's not crazy about the food there. It's not the greatest, but most of the time, the show makes up for it. It's hard to believe that some form of CSI has been on television since then, and probably longer.

It was a very lazy weekend, except for Friday night. We went to Yuk Yuks with my sister Robin, and my niece Tracey and her husband Henry. There were two lady comics and a gentleman MC. The MC was just as funny as the ladies. The comedy was good, and call me a prude, but I think it could have been just as funny without all the swearing; I mean how many times can you say F%#* and get a laugh; and it wasn't even being used in the right context. We hit the casino briefly afterwards. Somehow it's just not the same as Vegas - you can lose money in Vegas and still say "Hey I was in Vegas!" But somehow losing $20.00 at a local casino just seems like a waste of money! We call came back to our house afterwards and of couse Henry got the Tequila lesson. I hope Henry was able to get up for work on Saturday.
Saturday night was somewhat quiet at home. Bill went to a rugby party - to watch the Worlds Cup on TV. Ashley was out with the boyfriend; and I did a little kareokeeing (sp) . I don't think Maya had as much fun as I did.
So today is get my chi together day and get something done. Got all my stale bread made in bread crumbs. Laundry finished and Ashley's bed stripped. Poor girl has been sleeping on a Futon since she got home; so we're going to sell it and get her a proper bed. During this process I gave myself a big goose egg. I was trying to take the slip cover off the heavy, heavy mattress and my hand slipped and my fist went right into my forehead. After a little under the breath cursing, I couldn't help but laugh when I realized how funny it would sound when I had to explain the goose egg.
Hope everyone has a wonderful week - I intend to.

Day 3 of October

Well it's the 20th of October. I have missed a couple of memories during the week. October 15th was 53 years since my sister was born. I don't remember the day at all - oh wait, that would be because I wasn't born yet. I hope I am as perky as she is at 53.
We had a surprise visit on Monday from a friend from Edmonton. Bill and Neil did their grad studies together at the U of A. We got to know Neil and Gwen quite well, in fact they were at our wedding and Ashley named her first fish after Neil. We figured it had been more than 10 years since we seen each other. We still keep in contact through Christmas cards each year. It was a very delightful surprise.
Another surprise was; I won tickets through a magazine (I forgot where I entered) to see the new movie "Puss N Boots". It is about the cat from the Shrek movies. The best part is we are going to see it as a family (minus the missing one) At least it is a movie we can all agree upon.
Speaking of movies, last night Shaunan and I went to see a classic "North by Northwest". It is an old Alfred Hitchcock movie with Cary Grant. Once a month the Crowfoot (and Chinook I believe) theartres offer an old movie to watch for $5.00. Now I'm pretty sure at the time the movie originally came out it was a thriller. But fast forward to today and it was a thriller/comedy. The plot was very good, but the acting was so bad. From the statue poses to the glove in the hand for the damsel in distress. Having said that, Cary Grant was a very good looking guy, and how could you not melt with that voice. I can't wait for next month to see "Ben Hur."
After work today, it will be clean up the office time. Papers are piling up.
Have a great Thursday.

NOTE: Sending positive energy to my girlfriend De - seems she is in a competition with the allergy season - and sinus infection: According to Louise Hay "Heal your Body", the sinus infection is from "an irritation to one person; someone close!" You need to be thinking "I declare peace and harmony indwell me and surround me at all times. All is well!" love you girl

Day 2 of October

MEMORY: On this day, 11 years ago - so that would be 2000, Bill, Patrick and Amanda (a friend of Patricks) and I attended a Robert Munch concert at the Jack Singer. It was a great show. That means Patrick would have been 8 years old.
As you can tell, October hasn't been a great month for blogging. This past week has been a busy one. Tuesday night I took my sister to a Stage West production; actually it was one of their concert series ' Women of Soul" It was three ladies; - one was the lead singer and two back up singers. Well they did a Diana Ross and Supreme imitation (outfits and all); a Donna Summer imiation and lastly a Tina Turner imitation. The singing was exceptional, but I think the group needs to tweek their stage presence a little more. Wednesday I spent the day with Miss Caylee; or as she is officially known now "Princess Caylee!" I was ready for a morning nap; but Caylee kept me awake until the afternoon. We painted; made crafts; drank tea; did stickers; played on the computer - and that was all before noon. After lunch, we both went down for a nap. At 3:00 we headed outside to blow some bubbles. We took a little walk and Princess Caylee decided we should go to the park. Alisa had left me a map, but it was in the house, so I asked Caylee if she knew the way and low and behold she did. Did I mention, she's not three yet?
So after the park, back to the house; more tea, more books and more computer. It was a fun, but busy day. I think I am getting to old for the interacting babysitting. Needless to say, I was in bed by 9:00 pm on Wednesday.
Today was spent catching up on errands. Had to run Mom to the Dr.s to get a quick prescription renewal. When we showed up at the office, they didn't have us down for an appointment. Great - before I could get too wound up - they informed me that the appointment was for next Friday (that explains why I couldn't find it on my calendar) Luckily the Dr. had an opening an hour later, so we headed downstairs to the mall for a coffee and a quick shop. Today was the first day for the new Iphone 4S. You should have seen all the people lined up to get into the Apple store - there must have been over 200 people. I think the cinnamon store was probably making a profit today, because the line went right past them.
Well Bill is off to the Wine and Food Festival tonight - maybe he'll make some contacts and find job. There isn't much left to do around the house. Gardens are done; weeding is done; patio furniture put away. I might have to lend him out, just to keep my sanity.
Enjoy the weekend.

Day 1 of October

Where did September go?
Memory: In 2001 I was seeing my family doctor quite frequently to discuss ways of dealing with depression. I was told him I was trying to talk my husband into buying me a dog, and asked if he could write a prescription for that; so he did. Here is how the prescription read:
"It is a well know fact that pets improve depressed conditions. In particular Dr. IWAN ADOG has shown the efficancy of a small bichon shitzu in helping manage these problems."
Dr. Yee actually wrote this out on a real prescription notice. I loved Dr. Yee. Whether he agreed with some of my suggestions or not, he always had an open mind. Needless to say it took me we another 5 years and a lot of tequila to convince Bill I should have a dog; and I traded in the Bichon shitzu for a chihuahua. I figured if I can't find the time to get myself a haircut, when would I have time to take the dog for a haircut.

Well, it's Sunday, and the weather turned out beautful - there is reason we have autumn. The trees are so beautiful (despite most of their leaves landing in our yard) I've got a roast on the BBQ, potatoes in the oven, asparagus on the stove, and two margaritas down already. (you can take the lady out of Vegas, but you can't take Vegas out of the lady)

Next week in our Thanksgiving (De, I hope you remember to celebrate your inheirited heritage). The son is coming home for the weekend and has promised to be available for our dinner.

This is the last week of golfing at the course for Bill, so looks like I'll be back to making regular weekly suppers again - I love being a golf widow.
Busy week coming up - back to three regular jobs and subbing for a fourth. Despite how busy it sounds, it's still only part time hours - and did I mention, I love my jobs.
Have a great week.

Day 9 of September

Memory: Ok, this memory is only a few days old - but WOW, Garth Brooks in Vegas was amazing. Sorry I meant AMAZING. Talented musician, storyteller, entertainer; down to earth. Just Garth and his acoustic guitar. Let me start at the beginning and only include the highlights:
Bill and I left Calgary on Friday, Sept 23rd for Vegas. We arrived at our hotel around 10:00ish; Had a quick bite to eat; a pitcher of margaritas and back to our room;
Saturday we walked the strip; picked up our tickets early for Garth; and did a little gambling. Saturday night we met Tracey and Henry at the Wynn; again we grabbed a quick bite (actually the service was horrible and the food expensive) and a quick drink (quick service, but expensive drinks). Then we headed into our show at 10:30 and for the next 2 and some odd hours, was thoroughly entertained. If it hadn't been so hot in vegas, I would have worn my new Garth Brooks hoodie. Then we headed back to our own hotels.
Sunday morning; did a little more gambling; hit the pool; and then made our way down the strip to the Monte Carlo. We met up with Tracey and Henry again and went to see the Jabberwokkie show. It too was very good. Then we walked over to the Hawaiian Market across the street and we ended up at a Kareokee bar (unintentially of course). Well that is where the night began. I did everything in my power to get the other three to come up and sing, and I almost had Henry convinced he could sing Johnny Cash. I sang my two favorites and we spent the rest of the night being entertained by everyone around us. We were sitting with a Charlie Sheen look a like (only when he had his hat on and his head turned a certain way.) It was 2:30 in the morning when we finally headed back to our own hotels again.
Monday morning, Bill's cousin Lora and Mike drove up from CA to visit. They stayed in the same hotel and we spent the next two days visiting and gambling. We left Las Vegas Tuesday night around 9:00 pm and was back in Calgary by 12:45 Wednesday morning.
I think it is going to take me months to re couperate. What a great birthday present and now I have one more thing to cross off my list - seeing Garth Brooks.

I have rejoined Facebook. Hopefully I'll be playing it smart this time. I have signed up at Maya Wee, so if you get a friend request or want on the friend list, just tag me. I won't be posting a lot of pictures, or sharing a lot of info (so I say now). But at least De will be able to keep me informed on what is going on in her life.........

I better get some paper work done because I plan on being in bed at 9:00 again tonight.

Day 8 of September

Memory: Ok, so this memory is a day late - but I was a little busy yesterday. So let's pretend it is Tuesday September 20th (we don't have to relive it again). 50 years ago, Helen Zoback gave birth to the most amazing; cute, tiny and smart baby. (and apparently humble) that would mean that my mom was 37 years old when she had me. For the longest time, I used to think I had been an oops; then it dawned on me; Robin was only three years older than me, so she must have been the oops and I was the playmate. Too bad it took us til our 20's to want to play together!!!!! thank goodness we have each other now.
So my actual birthday day was wonderful. Received many birthday wishes from friends and family, and I didn't even have to be on Facebook to get them (not looking good for my Facebook re-instatement De) Got a surprising phone call my my cousin Ken in Grand Prairie. He is exactly 1 year and 1 day older than me. It was so nice to catch up and reminice. I worked in the morning, and then attending a funeral in the afternoon. Our dear friend Ray's grandmother passed away. This amazing lady was 99 years old - 1 month short of 100. Up until a few years ago, she was still living on her own; and maintaining her garden. A lovely, lovely lady and a very nice memorial.
Then last night my son Skyped me - for my birthday - one of the best presents. I just needed to see for myself that he was doing well and enjoying himself. Seems he's misplaced his razor charger, so the face was a little scruffy. He'll be home for Thanksgiving.

This morning was a catch up morning. Ran errands in the morning; work in the afternoon; bill payment and paper work this evening, and now I'm going to attempt to give myself a manicure.
If it doesn't turn out, I'll be visiting my nail lady early Friday morning.
Enjoy this great Wednesday - hug a friend and say hi to a stranger.

Day 7 of September

Memory: 67 Years ago today, My mom's best friend, Lance Corporal Emily Buchanan passed away. She was 20 years old. She was training at an Alberta base, and the vehicle she was in, rolled over and she tried to jump out a window and the truck rolled onto her. Mom had talked about her friend many times, but today when I told her of the anniversary, she beganning filling in more blanks. Emily had just got married; Barry was 5 months old. I knew she had died at a base, but Mom didn't mention the vehicle accident. I have some pictures of Emily in my Family album. Emily and Mom were members of the CGIT. (mom used to call it, the Cutest Girls in Town).

So my 50 list is still ongoing. There are a couple more items that I should be able to cross off by the end of the month. There are a few that are dreams, but we all know dreams can come true so they are staying on my list.

The countdown is on for Vegas and Garth Brooks. I can hear him now. "I've got friends in low, places....." I am ready to be blown away.

Haven't heard too much from the son; he sounds like he is very busy (when we text). Maybe I'll hear from him tomorrow.

I am still having a little bit of Facebook withdrawal. I was taking some dishes out of Ashley's room this morning, and low and behold, she left her Facebook page signed on. Now I figured, "you leave dishes in your room - facebook page is fare game. " So I did what I had to do - and I'm hoping Ashley really does think she has the best mom in the whole wide world!!!!!! She's not home yet, so not sure if she knows about it yet!

I have invested in a new toy. I used some birthday money and bought a KoBo reader. So far I am liking it. A little more complicated than I anticipated, but once I figure out the library borrowing, it will be great. Right now I'm reading a non fiction book about Lisa and Laura Ling - two sisters; journalists and Laura's experience being held in North Korea - it was in the news a couple of year ago.
Anyway, now I am babbling - off to watch the new episode of two and a half men and then to bed.
