First a quick sorry to De for getting my facts confused - I was googling the Globe and Mail which is an Eastern newspaper!!!! my bad. That is the second time google has given me wrong info. (see below)
(Depending on where you are in the world, December 21 or 22 marks the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere: the official beginning of winter, and the longest night of the year. (In Canada, the switch happens either late at night on the 21st, or early in the morning on the 22nd; for those on Eastern Standard Time, the new season begins at 12:30 a.m. December 22). )
So it is 6:30 pm boxing day and i am still in my pajamas. Was awake early; ate my breakfast and went back to bed. I had one snooze on the couch and have been pretty much putzing about the remainder of the day.
So I'm going to take us back to Chrismtas Eve. The Christmas tree is sparkling brightly; Ashley is at Ethan's house for dinner with his family and then playing video games; Patrick is out for dinner with Stephanie and her family and Bill at 8;45 pm is in bed!!!!!!!! Ho Ho ho. Santa could have stopped at our house first. I would have been the only one to see him. I think I now know who the song "I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus" got started!!!!!!
It was until a few hours later, when I finally climbed into bed, and then the noise began; Ashley came home and decided to clean out her car (after 6 months of living out of it). Patrick comes home alittle bit later with his girlfriend so they could exchange Christmas gifts. I should have just stayed awake until everyone was home.
Bill and I both slept in on Christmas morning; if you call8:30 am as sleeping in. We made an executive decision that the kids should be awake early as well; to teach them a Chrismtas lesson - or maybe it was just payback for when they were little and would want to get up early. So we sent Maya downstairs to share her puppy kisses with both. It didn't take them long to get out of bed.
The morning went smoothly with only a couple of instances that stood out. The first one was Ashley. She was in charge of handing out the gifts and she leaned over and poked her eye with a tree branch. Not the brightest star on the tree.....
the other cute moment was Maya. Last year Ashley opened her toy and Maya was so excited. This year, whenever Maya heard Ashley ripping the paper, she thought the gift was for her - what a memory. We all forget to get Maya something, except Patrick - Santa's helper. But instead of wrapping up her toy, he put it in a tiny bag. Ashley kept the gift on her lap and while she was handing out other gifts, Maya walked onto her lap and grabbed the handle of the bag in her mouth and went and sat down. She spent the next ten minutes trying to pull this stuffed toy out of the bag, and once she did, she wouldn't get close enough to Ashley so she could cut the tags off. She really is one of the family.
We cleaned up a little bit afterwards and then a few had naps. I proceeded to get things ready for our Christmas dinner at Robins.
The Christmas dinner at Robins was wonderful. Despite being a small place (with all the levels, it is actually a great size), we fit 18 people in the basement for a sit down dinner. The food was great, the company was great, and the Christmas spirit was everywhere. Hats off to my sister, who can pull something off so big, and make it seem effortless! Of course the biggest highlight of the evening was little Miss Caylee. Caylee will be three in April, but she is the most polite, curious, smart girl. She can work a camera phone like a pro. I want to share a comment that Patrick made to me when we got into our car. And remember this is an 18 year old boy. He says "Mom, Caylee is so cute and well behaved!" Alisa's done a great job, she's a great mother!" I agreed completely and praised him for his great observance!
After we left Robin's we headed for a quick visit to Ben and Karen's to see the Wee half. We were there for an hour or two. Linden was already in bed and eveyone was getting tired. I was glad to get home and climb into my bed last night. It was the best sleep I've had in the past few weeks.
Now it is the countdown to New Years!!!!!!!
